Thank you both :)
This week he has done a little better and slept in the morning on most days (keeping a log at this stage). But I think I will just follow your suggestions and play it by ear. I just want to make sure he gets all the sleep his little body and brain need!
My DS dropped his afternoon nap (3-4pm) at about 18 months. He still takes his 10-12 morning nap....he is now 2.5 years. There was a time when he would also just play for a while or play during the entire 2 hours! It depends on what you want to do. If he still seems like he needs a nap during the day, keep putting him down and his body will adjust again. If you want to cut it out, you can just stop altogether and follow the signs as to days he seems tired and only out him down then.
DS has been doing the opposite: 2 hours in the morning (10 - 12) and 45 min-1 hour (3 - 4ish) in the afternoon.
Yesterday he sat in his cot until 12ish and then we had to leave the house so went in to get him and realised he had just fallen asleep! The poor soul ... The thing is, if he is not in bed by 10 he gets moody so I always presume he is tired and then once he is in his cot, he doesn't sleep!
My ds always started to protest cry or just play whenever a change was needed with nap timings. Often moving back half an hour would do the trick and he'd go right to sleep. However when he started to refuse a ten am nap I decided to try and cut it out....I kept trying for a while and sometimes he would sleep and sometimes not and when it was more often not I stopped putting him down. He used to do 30-45 min in the morning and two hours in the afternoon but I moved the afternoon nap back an hour and he started doing three hours here instead. This started at around 14 months. Hope that helps!
DS is now 16 months and has been a good sleeper until a couple of months ago. Since, he does not always sleep during his morning nap although I leave him in his crib but I do hear him gurgling and playing. Some days he does, some days he does not. I cannot see a pattern... I used to have the video monitor in his room to see whether he actually slept but then decided to take it off as the light might distract him and keep him from falling asleep. During our summer holiday in Europe I heard him less during his naps so I have the feeling he slept more there. Now that we are back in Dubai I hear him playing in his cot again so I fear he might be weaning himself off a nap.
Could you share at what age your LO dropped one of his naps? Also, how did you go about it?
