Hi,

Its my first time to post here. I am 6 mos pregnant with my 2nd baby. Last 2 days i felt a terrible pain in my inner thigh, pubic bone, back (cant explain where is it exactly) it feel so terrible that i cannot get up, turn over in bed, and walk. It feels like something is swollen inside or what. It was started when I went to dubail mall and spent 1 hour walking (although i already felt slight pain for the past days before going to dubai mall) I took rest for the whole night and it helps to relieve a little pain. I googled the symptoms and I found sciatica and Symphysis Pubis Dysunction = which i guess close to what I feel. I went to see a dr. in emergency room medcare al safa park because my ob gyne Dr. Luthra was fully booked and ahe cannot acommodate me. The doctor told me that my ligaments are soft due to hormones that made me feel in pain (well i wasnt like this on my first pregnancy). She prescribed me panadol and antiobiotics and advised to come back if it didnt work out.

I would like to ask the moms here if anyone have any idea how to cope on this? Id really appreciate your replies.

Hi EDF8, I went to see a fantastic physio called Christine Fisher. She used to be based at City but is now based at Primavera Medical Centre in Health Care City. I would highly recommend her - although the physio didnt get rid of the SPD completely, it did improve drastically so I would def go to see her. Good luck!

I'm suffering with the same SPD pain from around 6 1/2 months :( it is unbearable and hard to be on feet, get up and down, move in bed, etc! My obgyn said its something some pregnant women suffer with more than others and that there is nothing that can be done. If those of you whom went to physio had positive outcome, appreciate if you could recommend your doctor, I'm willing to try anything at this point as in a lot of pain!

I also had this to the point where i couldnt walk and 10 physio sessions plus lots of excercises at home cured it.

I had severe SPD, so much that at one point in time I couldn't walk with so much pain. However, I did go see a chiropracter and a few sessions of that did help. The pain didn't go until after the birth, but it was much, much more bearable.

Did the emergency room doctor tell you why she prescribed you antibiotics? Because they aren't going to help you if it's just SPD so unless she has tested you for, and confirmed, an infection then I'm not sure what use they would be. I'd insist on speaking to my ob/gyn if I were you. Even if she can't find an appointment for you then she should make the time to speak to you on the phone. At least then she can assess better if she needs to see you.

Panadol is safe for pregnant ladies. Pubic bone pain is normal and sometimes gets worse towards the end of pregnancy. I had it for both my pregnancy and panadol helped a lot. Your body is adapting to a lot of changes and are stretching like never before. Dont worry. We have all been there. ;)

I had that too and turning over in bed as well as crossing my legs was painful. The only reassurance I can give you is that my DS is now 5 months old and that pain went away as soon as he was born. I had actually totally forgotten about it until I read this thread!

Did the doctor do a urine test? It could be a urinary tract infection which can be extremely painful during a pregnancy. Hi, Its my first time to post here. I am 6 mos pregnant with my 2nd baby. Good morning ohbelle6c, It sounds as if you are suffering from SPD. I have been suffering from SPD from about 6 months too and it can be very painful. The only way I can describe it is a very bad ache in the groin area whenever you get up from sitting down, walk a lot or as you mention, turn over in bed.... so basically whenever you move! Again the dr explained the same thing, its due to the hormone relaxin, which softens all of your joints and essentially your pubic bone ligaments are being stretched which causes the pain. I went to see my doctor who referred me immediately to a physiotherapist. I carried out 4 or 5 physio sessions which made a huge difference. I have not been taking medication throughout the pregnancy so wanted to avoid that if I could and honestly speaking, the physio was a huge help. She gave me lots of pointers as to how to minimise the pain and although it has never gone away completely (I am now 35 weeks), it definitely helped a lot. It has unfortunately come back in the past few weeks and the Dr has said that now with the pressure on my cervix that I just have to live with it until the baby arrives but again, keeping the exercises going still helps. I would suggest you make an appointment with a physio as soon as you can as it really can be very painful to live with. The physio I saw was in HCC and she was really very good. Let me know if you would like her details and I can pass them onto you. The tips she gave were really very helpful! Sorry I cant be of more help and I hope the pain diminishes for you.
