DCC sounds like your little man is loving the taste of food :) if he's happy and eating it then brilliant. he will soon let you know if he has had too much.
my DS sounds like yours he loves the taste of food- he is now 8 months and eats EVERYTHING- fish, beef, chicken plus all veg and fruit.
enjoy this time is very exciting for you both :)
I should have been a bit more clear that I wasnt asking a question about guidelines. I was asking a question to the mums who have fed their babies at 5.5 months. To those ladies thank you for all your advise!
Today he had a whole mashed avacado and then his full 5 ounce bottle on top. Weve always known hes a hungry baby but seeing how happy he is in the afternoon after his meal and milk is priceless!
I just wanted to make sure he wasnt have too much. I guess quite some pear got left behind in the blender and some was also played with by DS so it may have been less than two WHOLE pears.
Thanks again!
My Baby started with solids when she was 5 months (75g)! Started with a bit, checking if she likes the pumpkin and added day by day a bit more ( parsnip, sweet potatos,carrots)...after a week a Second vegetable...and on and on, now with 7 months I added another solid meal with steamed apple, peas, plum, and Special grains like millet and oat, mixed with water!
What you wrote doesn't Sound as much...when you Start to give a Full meal then it would be too much to add a Full bottle afterwards... But in your case, all Good :)
Check out the anabelle karmel website. She's got some great tips and advice on nutrition and weaning. All kids are different, my son was a terrible milk drinker and thrived after i started solids at 4 months-its whats right for your baby :)
Most major health bodies reccomend waiting until around 6 months, all reccomend waiting until at least 4 months as it has been fairly conclusively shown that earlier than that carries increased risk of allergies and malnutrition. The major reasons for waiting longer than 4 months are that you risk displacing breastmilk and that there is increased exposure to bacteria in a young gut. It sounds like your baby is developmentally ready for solids and your only real worry should be that solids should absolutely not result in lowered milk consumption at this stage. This is important as milk is much higher in cslories and in nutruents ounce for ounce than yhe vast majority of weaning foods and so if your baby takes less milk as a result of eating solids then they are actually being deprived of nutrients. You can avoid this by offering milk first then solids second and also making surs you serve nutrient dense foods like meat, eggs snd dairy from day one. ( as advised by WHO) My son was also enthusiastic from day one and would cry if I took the food away before he was finished. I worried a bit because all the books etc were talking about starting with a teaspoon each meal and he was eating more like 10, but he also drank loads of milk so I just followed his cues. Pear is easy on the tummy but move on to meat quickly. I found grains and dairy were reflux triggers but fruit, meat and eggs were all fine. I didn't give kiwi fruit or berries until later though.
i started solids for my ds just 2 days before he turned 6 months. in the starting i used to give him just half apple. (day 1) but he wanted to eat...so i followed his cue and gave him how much he wants. he used to eat 1 apple or pear or peach daily. after 1 month i started his lunch and dinner. now he takes 3 meals and 1 snack. as for measurement i used to give 7 oz only but as stated he wanted more.
he has turned 9 months yesterday and still he lets me know that either he is full or does not like the taste :)
My DD started on solids around 14 weeks on advice of pediatrician(she was a terribly unsettled new born and never went more than an hour or so without crying/feeding)......from the day i tried her she ate lots and was constantly interested in what we were eating!! By contrast her younger sister was still refusing solids at 6 months......just wasn't interested. Advice seems to constantly change....when I was a baby my mum started us all at 3 to 4 months which was standard advice then. I was told that if they stick their tongue ot as you approach with the spoon rather than open their mouths, then they're not ready...not sure how true that is.
It's hard to keep up with how fast medical advice on this issue changes! When I had my first baby in the UK in 2006 you'd practically be burned at the stake for starting solids before six months. Roll on two years later to when I had my next baby and the six month rule had been downgraded to a general guideline.
The American Academy of Pediatrics currently advises between 4-6 months is about right.

All babies are different DCC, there isn't any 'right' amount. My first baby had no solids at 5 1/2 months, the next two had varying amounts at that time. They are generally pretty good at letting you know, if they don't want it they'll spit it out.
Thanks Daza. He never seems full up i guess because hes taking digested formula (neocate). His Ped has been at me for introducing solids since 4 months but I didnt till now. Pear was of choice because its the lest acidic fruit so it shouldn't aggravate his reflux. I was very surprised he was so hungry for it. He was opening his mouth wide and coming forward for each spoon!

Yes, very true. I can hardly get any solid food into my 7 month-old.

Yes, easygo is right. You should ask a pediatrician or consult the American Academy of Pediatrics' website in order to keep up with current guidelines.
As far as I know, the current research recommends starting solids at 6 months. Anytime before that has been found to provide no nutritional benefit and can actually cause allergies and internal issues.
No solid food at 5 and half months? Interesting...mine started at two months with flake of rice porridge,so small,it's like feeding a fish...and gradually more...but read on Google about this...I would feel that two pears in one go is a bit much again....no stomach ache afterwards?
Solids made my babies sleep better...a good reason for starting a wee bit earlier...but please, check advice on google or with a pediatrician/pediatric nurse
DS has roughly 4-5 ounces 7 times a day. Today I gave him some solids. I pureed two medium pears with 30ml of his milk. I thought hed only have a tablespoon but he had all of it and then had a 4 ounce bottle on top! He then ate again as normal 3 hours later.
Is that too much? He wasnt force fed and he has a gag reflex so he would have gagged it out if he didnt want it. How much solids do babies have at 5 and half months age?
