So I have this weird craving for lebanese kebabs with garlic sauce. Not sure if it is safe! I forgot to ask my doctor, does anyone know if it is safe or not? I am not sure how it is made :/

The only thing my Dr told me to avoid when I was pregnant with DS1 was mayo in any form. She said because of raw eggs for fresh and she said in jar stuff there's a preservative that's not good for babies. TBH I didn't even think to check about the preservative so don't know how true that is. Isn't the garlic sauce usually made from labneh which is yoghurt not mayo?

I've had garlic sauce during my last pregnancy and had no problems. I even had soufflés etc with raw eggs in them and had no problem. I guess it depends on whether you usually eat such stuff. My last obgy told me to continue what i had been eating normally with very few exceptions like offal etc.

I have been having garlic mayo daily.. 6 weeks only, but the only think I want is chicken with garlic mayo.. Raw eggs dint click my mind.. For mayo I did some online research and it says the commercial store bought is fine, like helman's (excuse the spell error) because it is made with pasteurized eggs and the production it goes through, the thing with homemade or fresh made is you can not be sure about the eggs, unless you get the pasteurized ones. I think it is okay. With the Labenese restaurant is, they make it fresh :/

Yes I had a doubt because it does look fluffy like egg whites. Thank you! I will definitely avoid it then, I think I'd prefer making at home without the eggs. Crazy cravings!

Oh I didn't know that - raw eggs, a DEFINATE no-no! I thought she was worried about the garlic itself. So many people get advice not to eat spicy food when pregnant. I say "each to their own!" edited by Kooky on 24/02/2013

I think Apach is asking because raw eggs are used in some recipes of garlic sauce which is a no no during pregnancy. I would avoid it Apach, but if you can't resist check with the chef at the restaurant whether it contains eggs. Otherwise make it at home without eggs, it's super easy, recipes are all over the net! I ate more garlic than ever when I was pregnant - all three times. All three kids like garlic now too!

I've never heard of garlic being harmful. In fact, it is supposed to be good for you and the baby. Also, I've heard when you have cravings it is because there is something in the food you crave that you need, like magnesium in chocolate.
