Hi - I can recommend Ioannis Delipalas at Thrive Wellbeing Centre. He is a psychiatrist in Dubai - but doing online sessions so that might work.

Dr Gregor Kowal at CHMC Dubai Healthcare City is reasonable and caring. He is German, though, not American.

Thanks to all you who commented on this post. I really appreciate your input. I am off to bed and hopefully I will be able to see a doctor in the next few days. Will let you know how it goes. Good night.

So, I called DCHC to make an appointment with Dr. Amer and his next appointment is one MONTH away. Seriously can't wait that long :-( I made an appointment at the American Center for next week with Dr. Saiqa Ismael - kind of a shot in the dark at this point. Honestly, I think I am more concerned with finding the right psychologist or counselor soon just to help talk me through this episode and get me back on the right track. Basically just need a doctor to get me back on my meds. In the mean time, I will probably just stay in my room away from all other human beings. :-/ Don't sit away! you just need somebody to talk, share your thoughts?

There is no private message facility here WW Okay then, Sabdein. If you still would like to try and get an appointment with Dr. Amer this week, I can call the DCHC for you and tell them that a fellow American urgently needs an appointment with Dr. Amer. I will then post a generic message for you on this forum to call DCHC and follow up with them in scheduling your appointment. You won't know my name and I won't know yours - totally anon. Your kindness made me cry. Literally. If you think you could get me in then go for it. The sooner the better. I really appreciate your concern. No worries, I'm calling them now....

Farah at Moving Forward is Canadian and does CBT, which is really effective. She should be able to fit you in quickly, and does couples and young people as well as regular counselling. However, she's a psychologist not a psychiatrist so can't prescribe The problem is that I really need someone who can prescribe. Then I will move forward with a psychologist. I will keep her in mind. Thanks for your help.

(Yes, confining yourself to your room constitutes a need for an appointment immediately - so I don't feel like you should wait either). If you want to pm me I can try to help you get an appt with Dr. Amer asap. The sooner you are seen, the quicker you can start feeling better!

I have a great psychiatrist at the DCHC (Dubai Community Health Centre). Unfortunately, Dr. Amer Saadeddin is a male psychiatrist. However, like you, I am an American (via NYC) can really vouch for his standards of practice from personal experience. There are also two female psychologists that come highly recommended at DCHC: Dr. Azar Katouli, a member of the American Psychological Association and Dr. Monica Thompson are both licensed clinical psychologists and all can be reached at 04 395 3939. I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I was at my lowest point when I finally researched mental health professionals in Dubai - I actually found my doctors through advice on this forum. I dragged myself to the DCHC after not leaving the bed for three weeks. I am an extremely active individual, have a Phd, wonderful husband, friends and family - but I live with the fact I suffer from Depression and am fully aware it can rear its ugly head at any time. I just constantly work to keep the triggers at bay, keep evolving through treatment and surround myself with quality people. As you know, it's not an easy battle by any means and it affects everyone around us - but each day I feel I'm getting better and better. Yeah, there will be a setback here and there but they are nowhere near the depths of depression I've found myself battling. I hope that the suggestions made by myself and others in this thread help you find the doctors to match your needs. And I wish you and your family all the best and hope that your health and happiness is on the upswing very soon. Hang in there! :) Edited for content length edited by WilliamsburgWanderer on 29/04/2013

You might want to check Dr Celen @ Belhoul Specialty Hospital. She is a psychiatrist trained in Austria (I know, not the US). Pros and cons like for most shrinks around here...

How about the American Center? http://www.americancenteruae.com/ They have a long list of psychiatrists and psychologists. Perhaps read through their profiles until you find one that suits you (studied in America, for example). As does LightHouse Arabia (whose staff, I believe trained and/or are American). http://www.lighthousearabia.com/PsychologistDubai.aspx Alternatively, Dubai Community Health Centre DCHC has reputable professionals. http://www.dubaicommunityhealthcentre.org/

Ladies, I need a great psychiatrist/psychologist. My family is suffering and it is time to seek help. I prefer someone who studied in America because as an American I feel that I will be better able to relate to them. I need medication as well as intensive counseling. I know because this is not the first time and probably won't be the last :-( Any guidance would be appreciated. PS. Looking for a female doc. edited by sabdein on 29/04/2013
