I had an open MRI done recently at Open MRI Clinic on Beach Road. http://openmridubai.com/about/about.php Ditto. I am extremely claustrophobic but can cope with this one. It's not a tunnel, it's completely open at the sides. Also, depending on where they are taking images from, your head might be slightly out. You can take a friend/ family in with you as a distraction. I just looked towards the door the whole time! I was supposed to go to city but I couldn't stay in, it was so close! No mirror nothing. <em>edited by Bird on 14/01/2014</em>

Just wanted to add - I had an MRI done a few months back at Advanced Radiology. I did have to have it done in the "traditional" MRI machine - and I was extremely nervous. But it wasn't bad at all. The staff were great, the machine wasn't as tight as I thought it would be (I'm very claustrophobic so it was a big concern), and they put a little mirror on my head so you aren't actually looking directly up at the ceiling of the tunnel (which I think would have freaked me out). The mirror allowed me to see the staff behind me and actually gave the optical illusion (at least for me!) that the top of the machine was open.

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. I will pass on all the info to her and hope we find the right one for her. I know that some clinics advertise am open MRI and it isn't, it's still a tunnel but slightly wider (no good for her). The one that Amelia mentioned might be that type. Can't find allied diagnostics in Sharjah on Internet, only Dubai one, which isn't open. We were told that the Open MRI clinic is only for spinal issues, but we will check. The one in medcare sounds a possibility....so BIG THANKS again to all you kind people for replying with suggestions.

MedCare in Garhoud has an open MRI machine. I was really worried when I had to get an MRI after being told not many hospitals have the open machine. The nurse stays with you the whole time too to keep you calm. It's on the corner opposite Kindergarten School by GIGICO metro station. Good Luck x

If you mean the one that is circular, then Premier Diagnostics in Deira have one. However, it is still noisy and the top part comes down very close to your face. <em>edited by amelia on 13/01/2014</em>
