Hi Ladies,
In planning for the delivery of my 2nd baby (but this will be my first baby in Dubai) I originally intended to deliver at either Mediclinic City Hospital or Al Zahra Hospital. However after reading many of the posts on expatwoman (most are older posts), I've heard there are lots of extra/hidden costs above the "price of the delivery package". I know the things listed as exclusions (epidural, forceps, etc) are not included but can anyone who has recent info (2016-2017) comment on how much extra costs beyond the package price I should plan for? And even better what these costs are for?

Thing is I may or may not have insurance at delivery time (my current insurance which covers delivery up to 7000k will expire before my delivery). So I will either pay to renew my insurance and pay the costs above the 7000 delivery limit, or buy a delivery package at these hospitals.

Help please!!!!!!

I have no experience of it myself but when I saw your post I thought of the Iranian Hospital. If you google ''giving birth at the Iranian Hospital'' - quite a lot comes up on chat sites - including EW. In June 2010 Febetka said the Iranian Hospital cost AED4,100 for delivery minus 20% with health card. Good luck! Interesting - I will look for posts and check it out - has anyone delivered at Iranian Hospital recently and has feedback?

Most prices would have changed since 2010

Thanks all for your replies. I am so confused on what to do - it sounds like in either case (with or without insurance) I am looking at high out of pocket costs for delivery. It seems 7000 k will not cover any delivery fully in Dubai ... but wish it was more clear how much things cost around here! Good luck to you labello on your delivery!

Hi ladies, I had both dd's in City, I was very comfortable it is a reputable hospital and it was smooth sailing. The hidden costs we encountered were a upgraded room, hearing test (aed500) if MOM has any conditions ie. thyroid etc. they need to test the baby to know if it has same thing. My C section bill was approx 24,++0 2 years ago. my maximum was 25k hahaha so close to the line that insurance allowed. If you ask if I would go there again yes. good luck and all the best.

We were told that we can't use the package at AZ because of our insurance.... I check with the company insurance people, and sure enough even though they have a direct billing arrangement with the hospital, the arrangement doesn't cover the packages. You might just want to check that with your current insurance to see if it's a similar scenario. I liked the doctor there and it's much closer than any of the other contract hospitals our insurance covers, so we are probably still going to go with AZ, but it's just annoying that this information isn't freely available anywhere!!

Thanks for your reply. Can I ask did you have insurance or was this 20k with buying the package? Any one else ?? Your info would be so helpful!

I feel your situation. I think the amount is very limited. I had my son at City hospital and our bill was 20k. And that was in 2009. Need I say more? I guess you need to consider better insurance instead and go for a hospital of your choice. Good luck.
