Well, my advice for you is to make him follow his passion. It will be a great act if you can completely support him in order for him to be more confident on the things he want. I hope I helped you with my advice

its sad how schools and our societies in general have imposed this image of social behaviour that we must all conform to, while there always will be loners in this world, who'd rather be by themselves and be happy (and even successful) at what they happen to do well at. I do understand though that what you are worried about is the change in his behaviour which means he was not socially anxious before. I think while seeking counsel and therapy, its best not to pressurize him to be social, the expectations might be suffocating for him at the moment, and isn't it more important to be happy and content in life rather than be socially acceptable but miserable. It probably is a phase anyway and will pass, God willing !

I think it is best you take advice from a psychologist or his therapist with regards to homeschooling instead of relying on what anyone on this forum thinks, as every person is different and will give advice according to their own personality... i don't think its always a good idea to place someone in the midst of their nightmare to help them overcome their fears.. so for all you know homeschooling for a few years is what your son needs right now.

Hi, sorry to hear your son is going through this. I think helping him to pursue an interest is a good way to help. Being able to participate in this will increase his confidence in his abilities and in himself and this will have a positive impact across all other areas of his life. I don't think home schooling is the best idea. This is just removing him from the situation rather than helping him to deal with and overcome his anxieties. Speak to his teacher, explain the situation and they will be able to help him in school. Maybe he just needs small group activities rather than whole class groups for a while. His therapy will also give him strategies for dealing with school life so keeping him in school will only help him to overcome his anxieties as he implements new strategies learned. Asking him to chose a few friends to do things with at weekends is a good way to make him feel comfortable socialising too. Focus on just one or two others to start and then as a small group of friends, they can try socialising with others. Being part of a close knit group of friends might help him too. I hope some of this helps..

There is no recipe for heal human emotions, so this is a complicated subject for daring myself to suggest some way to action. If you don't know the causes of his anxiety, any decision could be counterproductive... I would tell you, try to find the whys on his condition and then, you can decide together what is the best for him. How to do it? share with him your distresses when you were his same age, foster conversations about his feelings and always listen to him. I have some ideas to start that kind of conversations, but I'm sure you know better what works with him. Best of the lucks!
