Please help!! I’m looking for some inspiration for things to entertain my parents with on their week long visit. They visited around this time last year for the first time so we’ve ticked most of the usual tourist boxes (Desert safari / Dubai Museum / Madinat / Malls, malls malls!).

I’ll book them to go up the Burj Khalifa (whilst I nurse my coffee at ground level as I’m too scared of heights - wuss that I am!!) …. and they are pretty good at just chilling out so we’ll undoubtedly spend some time round the pool…… but that’s not gonna fill 7 days!!

They arrive late tonight and DH has booked Thurs off work so I might splash out and treat us all to a night at Bab Al Shams as a change of scenery on Weds night ……then back Thurs ready for a brunch on Friday……. but how to fill in the rest of the time??

Lovely ladies, any inspirational ideas?

TIA ;)

My mum was over the other week and said her highlight was Global Village. Also enjoyed Madinet Jumeirah (Everyone loves Madinet!), afternoon/evening at Irish Village, sauntering down JBR Walk and Ladies Night!!! Can feel your pain on the bickering front though.... Webcam conversations truly give me a valid reason to love living in Dubai....

Dally - that sounds brilliant, am defo gonna plan that in! Thanks Here's more info on the fort it's called al jahili fort and make sure you visit the photo exhibition devoted to Wilfred Thesiger who Crossed the Empty Quarter twice in the 1940's. It's really interesting and it's a pity not more people know about it. We arrived very late in the day and they were about to shut we will def go back to give it justice -it's fascinating the region circa 1940. BTW it's closed on a Monday. edited by Dally on 09/01/2011

Dally - that sounds brilliant, am defo gonna plan that in! Thank you!! Freckles - yeah your right :-) It's just that my folks have turned bickering into a full time sport .... sure they do it just to wind me up half the time. Am really looking forward to seeing them tho :-) :-) x And finish off in Al Ain with a buffet at the Rotana Zest restaurant! Plenty of variety there for everyone.

Can recommend jebel hafeet and the zoo at al ain. Go up jebel hafeet to the top, great photo ops on the way down sto at the me cure grand hotel for coffee, snack etc and then go to the zoo. The fort museum is very good. Plus all the flowers should be in bloom now so well worth the trip out.

oh, in case you do want to bbq... do not get those disposable bbq grills with the coal already in it from the stores... I have with my husband and we couldn't finish grilling all our food. just get a cheap bbq grill thingy and your own coal.

how about one evening you go bbq-ing in the desert?you can even just find a hill next to a road and just go up and set up camp there. they have different meats marinating at the co-ops and you can also get some side dishes from them (like hummus, tabbouleh etc..) and bread. oh, bring firewood to make a fire too. it gets chilly out there and these days you won't get much light from the moon.

We did a desert safari last year, it was ok apart from I found the actual dune bashing absolutely terrifying and thought our driver was a madman - the others loved it, reinforcing the fact that I really am the worlds largest wuss these days ;-) Some fab ideas there ladies!!! Love the idea of a trip to Al Ain as I've not yet been there either - DH will just have to miss out this week - hehehe. Can't wait to see my parents ...... just hope they don't drive me toooooooo insane after 48hrs as they do have a lifelong habit of bickering insanely......:-) The more on our agenda the less chance for them to bicker ;-) Thank you all so much for your input ;-)

How about supper overlooking the fountains? A trip somewhere like Hatta / Mussendam? picnic on the beach? My in-laws really enjoyed the big bus tour when they were here last. I would also recommend the Jumeirah mosque tour Hope that helps!

Which desert safari are you taking them on? be careful as when my uncle came out last year i booked in for one that was a nightmare. we ended up leaving early and arguing to get our money back. food was rubbish and the driver was terrible. Enjoy your parents visit, always good when family visit you :)
