Am i being unreasonable.....

i live on the groundfloor of a small apartment block - the watchman keeps propping the door of the garbage room open so that he can use the plug - and leaves it propped open - this makes the space outside my apartment stink of rotten garbage......

I keep closing the door - am i being unreasonable?

And can someone tell me if their are municipality regulations that state that garbage doors should be shut?

I would imagine too that its a fire door, thats worth pointing out !! he's causing a fire hazard by sounds of it and if his dodgy taped together wires caused a fire it would soon sweep through the garbage, so for that point alone it needs sorting out. Also if he pushed or shouted at me he'd be in that dustbin quick sharp, how outrageous !

well watchman just screamed at me and pushed me out the way..... called building manager and he will speak to him today - also told him that i want him out of this building as he is MEANT to be the watchman and keep us safe NOT scream at me and push me..... Will keep you posted but am spitting feathers...... Am so temped to report him to the police....... You are paying good rent to live there and he is paid to protect you and the other tenants in the building. God help any watchman that laid his hands on me. I would put it in writing to the manager and say I expect action to be taken and want him to get back to me with what that action was and that I will take further action if I am not satisfied with the outcome. I would not be fobbed off someone saying they will talk to him later today. Whats wrong with talking to him right now?

He's using it for his washing machine (which i might add has two cables joined with duck tape - another hazard) - i have no issues with him using the machine as long as he doesn't prop the garbage room door open - which is a health hazard - the rubbish room is open to the street and stinks - so not only does the smell come in, so can roaches and small rats...... And when i come home of an evening i dont want to walk through the stench or rotten rubbish......

As you live there you have the right to live comfortably. I can understand he wants to use the socket but the tenants have to come first. :)

sigh - the joys of living in an appartment. My neighbours leave their front door open when they cook. I think they think they are not expats, but rather on some strange extended holiday camp. I hate it, causing smells is as bad as any other problems in my opinion. So I hear you. Just email the management, offer the solution, tell them to just give him an extension wire and that should solve the problem. Good luck.

Not at all. Have you had a word with him about it? If he still continues to prop the door open, report it to the building management/Landlord.

speak to him, can you get him an extenion socket - really cheap? or get him to get one. Seems like an easy problem to solve, just have a word.
