I am the same, my ex used to fly Jaguars at Coltishall and we were there for seven years... I always remember the great times living in the very special world of the RAF (except for all the time away!!)...The Di ing In nights especially!!

oh and the planes sounded like Tornados to me........;) A girl after my own heart, one that can identify an aircraft by the sound it makes. My heart still leaps everytime I hear and see a fighter. I loved it when we were in the Military. I loved getting my husbands uniform ready every night. Those were the days. edited by DesertRose1958 on 05/01/2011 Lived in Leuchars station area so brought up with that sound - so gutted that they are closing Leuchars! :(

"I see road traffic accident victims every day,” Abu Dhabi's chief forensic pathologist Dr Adnan Abbas told the paper. “People need to know about this. People need education. This is the main cause of death in the UAE. This is the main cause of death among young males, young Emirati males especially." http://www.arabianbusiness.com/abu-dhabi-roads-death-rate-twice-uae-average--82529.html Then don't buy them fast sports cars!

Very sad indeed. They're losing too many sons like this. A real shame. Is that statistically speaking or just a personal comment? Who is they? Yes it is statistically speaking! It is out there in all the newspapers...there was an article just a couple of weeks ago in one of the papers which stated the effect this ( deaths in road accidents) is having on the young Emirati male population. Can't find it now but did find this one from a year before: http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/speeding-drivers-creating-road-crisis "Young men in particular tended to speed excessively; he warned that more than 75 per cent of people killed on the roads were male. Every 35 hours, a member of an Emirati family was lost in a traffic accident, he added."

Sorry to divert back to the accident, but I've read reports on the Al Tayer accident in 3 different national newspapers and all three give a different road on which the accident occurred. It doesn't say too much about the quality and accuracy of news reporting in the country.hmm...anyway, it was AL Khail rd, just for those who need to know. As for newspaper inaccuracies....I cannot comment.

LOL this thread has moved from being about fighter jets to excessive speeding on the roads (which I do also abhor!). Going back to the jets ...... I read a few weeks before Xmas that the UK & UAE armies were having a little practice together, maybe what the OP saw was a continuation of that play date? http://www.thenational.ae/events/areas/abu-dhabi/uae-and-britain-join-forces-for-training-exercise

My MIL is at the female condolences right now and said road accidents is the topic there. Theynare saying something must be done because it is killing the young Emiratis. Even at the mosques the imam is telling them to stop with the speeding, he even is going so far as to say it is a form of suicide because death will eventually be the outcome. Many Emiratis are aware that the young men speeding is an issue out here so I don't see what JulesinDXB said as being incorrect Top people in AD have also been saying similar things in the press. I'm really glad to hear that people in positions of influence are bringing this issue to the forefront. Whichever way you look at it, it's a massive problem and Emiratis are literally going to wipe themselves out on the roads if they don't do something and quickly! It's been a highlighted issue for a while now and I'm happy to see that it's being taken seriously. But the question will be, will people take it on board?

Are you not open to anothers perspective/take on a situation? Of course, but it seems you only pick up and question my posts. And I never made a big deal over it. You did. So just chill out. There was nothing to analyse. Just you being picky.

Very sad indeed. They're losing too many sons like this. A real shame. Is that statistically speaking or just a personal comment? Who is they? Quite a few high profile family sons have been killed over the years in such accidents. It's sad. A lot of people get killed in car accidents all over the world, many are just not reported. Accidents happen to all nationalities, perceptions can appeared skewed due to a lack of reporting and publication of statistics. One must be careful not to sterotype i feel in such sad circumstance. edited by Jumeriah Jane on 05/01/2011 um it's only you that's putting a slant on it and making a fuss and a big deal. Chill already and stop nitpickig at everything I post - tedious much?

The speeding out here is really out of control, my MiL says it is a strong topic at the mosques.
