Wow this saga gets better! It seems the older child is the victim of bullying from another child in our compound who is would you believe only 5 but a real nasty piece of work! She admitted right away doing it and became rather distressed about it. Anyone her parents are also upset and have agreed to cover vets bills ec where necessary. I have a massive logistical issue with getting Puss to the vets tom as I am also hosting the first Fairy Godmother coffee morning and as the founder I can't miss it it's being filmed so I have to be there. If anyone out there in Umm Sequim nr Spinney's would consider taking Puss to the vets on my behalf id be eternally grateful as would Puss.

I am really shocked that a British Girl(or any child for that matter) of 8 is capable of doing this without recourse from the authorites... The child has isssues and needs help - I think it's renowned that abuse of animals is the start of something much deeper. I don't think that the parents would be concerned as there may be something or someone disturbing that childs mental and emotional well being. I think its a good idea to contact the animal welfare authority if it exists here.

Hope you got on ok with the parents Andrea A. Though likely not... They'll have a much harder time dismissing it when she does something unspeakable to another child. I have no sympathy for stuff like that...SJAussie, you're so right, there's no question it's a marker for future problems. What the heck is going on in an 8 year old's life that she feels the need to try and kill an animal in such a way? <em>edited by SamD on 31/01/2011</em>

How old is the child...........and I know I shouldn't ask, but what nationality (and before anyone starts, it makes a difference.) She's about 8 and English! Unfortunately it's an open garden for 13 villas with a shared pool although we do all have our own patio which is where she took the cat from. They have a dog so I shall be asking if they would like me to repeat the practise and see if they like it! Oh my, how shocking. Sorry to read this AndreaA. I have a 8 year old niece and I couldn't even in my wildest dreams imagine she would do anything like this. There is clearly something not right with the girl that did this. What do they say, people who are cruel to animals are testing the waters (no pun intended) and studies show they go on other acts of cruelty.

I suspect, sadly, that this little girl is practising what she's learned, seen, heard, at home. So I wouldn't hold my breath that the parents will do much (I hope I'm wrong). However, was this child on your property with permission and supervision? If not, and I don't know the law on this topic, you might point out the parents could be held to be negligent and therefore liable for any damages done (let alone what might have happened to this child herself, on your property in YOUR pool)

I have had a few of the compound children confirm it was her and that a younger child was also there. The mother of the younger one has apologised and told the child off also offered to pay towards the vets bill. The monster is currently out with her parents. Is there an animal cruelty department here?

I'm so angry I wouldn't mind I don't even like cats but she's my 2 year olds little kitten and she's so terrified she won't come out from under the table. Her parents will get tomorrows vet bill that's for sure. Oh thank goodness she's okay, just seen this after I had posted, my mind was thinking of the drain things at the bottom of the pool! I hope she recovers soon and realises that not everyone is out to hurt her and do make sure you make the parents pay! I would be very interested to know what they say, i.e. whether they defend their little monster or are horrified too.
