Hi

Can anyone tell me kid friendly restaurants that can cater for coeliac disease?

Any advise would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

You could also look online for the restaurant menu's. I'm sure The Wharf at Mina Salam do gluten free as was looking for veggie stuff for me.

I'm impressed with nkd pizza's gluten free option. I watched the video that shows their gluten free dedicated area and the process they follow with a gf order. I ordered last night - 2 regular pizzas and 1 gluten free but with BBQ sauce. They were fantastic and called me to inform me that their BBQ sauce was not gluten free (it's ok for me, as I'm not coeliac, just sensitive to larger amounts of gluten/wheat), but I was thankful they called before processing the order! I prefer the taste of their ancestral blend regular crust - but their gluten free one was the best I've had so far (here or in the US) - the 1800pizza one I found to be very weak, not crispy and bland. So, I can confidently recommend the nkd pizza! Also, PF Changs in MOE has been great for us - they bring the gf dish out on a different looking plate so you know they were paying attention. Now, I'm not coeliac so some cross contamination would not really bother me or dd (so I'm not a good judge of how well they are doing in the kitchen), but our experience there was great. (PF Changs in the US is far better though and offers a complete gf menu). edited by CdnExpat70 on 15/09/2012

I once went to the brunch at the Shangri-la with a coeliac friend and she said the staff were v helpful pointing out different gf options. But if you have any questions, ask Purple as she is the gf expert :-)

Hi Can anyone tell me kid friendly restaurants that can cater for coeliac disease? Any advise would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks edited by pocketrocket on 12/09/2012 Carluccio's has a GF menu. No child menu but they have a few basic pasta dishes. We took our kids for a g-free supper at Carluccio's at Dubai mall last week and they loved it. You can order the kid's pasta meal off of the kid's menu and they just make it with g-free noodles. Really nothing special but they had g-free ice cream, sat by the window and watched the fountains and received a balloon animal so they were thrilled. Carluccios now also serve pizza (maybe not all branches?) so be aware of gluten dust and contamination risk, we no longer go as I dont feel its safe, but my Coeliac (daughter) is highly sensitive. PF changs will do a kids meal for you, chicken strips tossed in potato flour and fried in brand new oil, ask for the manager, dont order with the waiters. (if in MCC ask for Brian, hes fab and very helpful). I tend to just bring food as its less stressful that way and lower risk. Look here also: http://www.glutenfreeuae.com/where-to-eat.html

We took MIL (Coeliac) to Ruth Chris and her menu option was huge! She was delighted as she hates having to explain to waiting staff. Seriously! I would have been more than happy ordering from her menu. They stayed in the Quamardeen and had lunch at Esca. She spoke to the head chef there and he made a few dishes for her (it was friday brunch) She was amazed that he went to such a great effort to cook the things she loves. I'm pretty sure that any established restaurant will cater for you, just make sure you call before and talk to someone who understands. It's not easy over the phone so maybe if you e-mail them they'll be able to assist. HTH

I know you're asking about restaurants, but just to let you know for take-out NKD Pizza now do a GF option They do and its yum!! :D that's good to hear, I meant to have said on my post that I'd not tried it - although I might give it a go though am not gluten intolerant! And what great service at Meydan! You don't get service like that in my house: My sister eats a gluten free diet, and when we were in the UK recently I made Sunday lunch, and put Paxo stuffing mix on her salmon (it was a serving suggestion on the back of the packet and I was doing chicken for everyone else). Needless to say it didn't go down very well - I completely forgot Paxo was basically bread! :\: LOL the number of times we had to cook pasta all over again as ended using the same fork to try both pots of pasta! Oops

Also the Organic Food Place has fresh bread on Tuesdays :D

I don't know of any good restaurants that cater for coeliacs but most have options if you call ahead and let them know and sometimes you can ask to speak to the chef and they can tell you what are the coeliac friendly meals. I would personally recommend the Meydan as when they knew my MIL was coeliac intolerant they prepared a 5 course meal for her separately (it was a buffet when we went there) and even prepared fresh gluten free bread for her! Also the boardwalk by the creek are quite good as they bring the chef out to speak with too! HTH
