I've heard of people having to take the test 9 (yes, NINE) times in Dubai, as some people are failed on principle, apparently.

I had been told that too, then I went for my driving test here, and had 3 other drivers in the test car with me and no joke I felt I had taken my life in my hands.
Person 1: In the driving school, entered the round about the wrong way, and then was unable to change lanes once out of the driving school (she had taken the test 3 times before and had already had 50+ lessons)
Person 2: Could NOT keep the car in a straight line, kept veering to the right and the assessor had to keep grabbing her wheel to get the car straightened up. (she had taken the test 7 times, and had over 80 lessons)
Person 3: Literally drove straight across three lanes to get to the far left lane at a round about, she cut off cars going 100k plus a massive truck and nearly cost us our lives (this was her first test, but am sure she would be taking many more)
And guess what they all said at the end when they failed? They all claimed the instructor had to fail them because it was only 1 pass per car and apparently I got that, and they were just unlucky this time and it was obviously to do with their nationality as well... from where I was sitting, the assessors were far too generous to even let them continue to try and correct their mistakes, it was the most terrifying experience ever.
To the OP, don't worry about what your instructor says, just go in, drive safely and surely and you'll be fine. As long as you can keep your car on the road, change lanes safely, you should be fine.
I've heard of people having to take the test 9 (yes, NINE) times in Dubai, as some people are failed on principle, apparently. Do go to your test on Thursday, and take it with confidence. If you happen to fail, could I suggest you go to Fujeirah (Dibba) for a long week-end for classes and then to take the exam? Apparently, that's a legal way to do it and you are almost guaranteed to pass. The only problem is, when it comes to renewal of your driving licence, you will have to return to Fujeirah. Might be worth it to save money and time in the long run?
Good luck for tomorrow!

Just feel down in the dumps ...after failing once. Then I got alloted a teacher who goes on and on about how i dont know to control the wheel and says I will definitely fail in the next test !
I thought the instructors are meant to encourage you and correct your faults
So I changed my instructor for the second last class and this teacher says my driving is fine and that I only need to be careful while lane changing .
I should have probably skipped the last class but since I had paid I went for the class with the original teacher .Again she was on and on and now my confidence has taken a beating and dont feel like going to my driving test next thursday :(
in abu dhabi years ago it was always the case that you didnt pass it first time, sometimes it took many times, and then you had to wait for 6 months inbetween before retests, luckily its improved much more now
Don't feel bad... I failed 5 times in Bahrain before passing it in Abu Dhabi 3 years later ( ok...so I gave up for awhile ) but I really really regret not persevering it...
You do also realise that they have quotas to pass per day...
I know this is gonna sound so cruel, but I looked at it this way.... If the sillier people out there passing it, I sure can!!!
So.... here's some cyber encouragement!!
:)
