Hi Ladies,

so here is the case.. i am a full time working mother.. from 7 - 4:30
DS is 13 month and i am looking to hire a maid
i could say am an over protective mum.. my mother has been the one taking care of him for the past year while i am at work.. but now she has to go back to hometown and i have no option but leaving him with a stranger - which breaks my heart :(

heard a lot of stories about maids... filipinos being the best with babies but have lots of cons that they could leave you anytime.. get pregnant out of wedlock.. bring their boyfriends at home.. while Ethiopians are perfect maids but it's too hard to deal with them...

i am stuck and i need advice.. Please help

ph was too lazy and want 4 days off a mnth reason going church! Seriously?!!! And you wouldn't let her? Ask yourself why you have problems with maids aline....... Oh my ! she is only asking for a day off once a week ...you allow somone to work 7 days a week ? How would you feel if your husband had to work 7 days a week. ?!!!!! she dont work 7 days i give her 2 days off out and 2 days off in house she stay , as she go out early come back at 6 pm , but she was asking for 4 days off (out of house) ) edited by aline_jlt on 13/02/2012 So basically you are saying that she can have days off but you are dictating where she should spend them and 2 of them should be in the house. ?! seriously .. think of it this way ... You work full time and get a weekend off.. your boss says that you can have the weekend off but you must spend one day in the office and the 2nd day you can go out .. ? I dont belive for a second that you would accept that so why is this lady any different ?

I would like to advise not to look at the nationality. It is all about the personality. The only thing I will strongly advise is to ask how many people she knows in the UAE. The more, the worst! exact , i used ph and ethiopian both was worth , ph was too lazy and want 4 days off a mnth reason going church!!! while ethiopian she start well hard worker than (after 20 days she start the mess , then she start shouting my daughter !! the next day she was on plane back her home . so my point is check the maid itself how she qualify and trusted , good luck by the way maid cost arround 800 dhs + ticket

I think olderindian women are great. Good with children, cooking, cleaning and usually don't have the high horse attitude. Shame they haven't been treated right.

I don't have a maid, but if I did, I'd go for someone that can understand English ( read & write also to some extent), the way I like things done can be taught. I know people who have maids where the language barrier is a real problem.

Over the years why have Indian maids become such a rarity? There was a ban on employing them for a while the same as there is now with indonesian - it normally comes from their country and is due to the neglect and abuse they face.

I think you're best focusing on individuals personalities rather than their nationalities. I've know some great Filipina maids, I also know some shockers. Same goes for any nationality. Interview as many as you can, you'll soon get an idea of what you think will work for your family. couldnt agree more!

i was thinking of a nursery or day care.. but the cheapest i could find for a decent one is 3000 a month.. which i could not afford in the mean time.. Keep in mind that by the time you pay sponsorship costs, salary, medical, flights, food etc etc etc a full-time maid can cost this much anyway. Especially given that you will be looking for someone with considerable experience and impeccable local references, her monthly salary alone could start at 2K.
