My son has requested a spiderman cake for his birthday. Up until now we have always prided ourselves on making and decorating our own cakes, but this one is proving a little more challenging! Does anyone have any idea how I do it, or where I get the red, black and blue food colouring from, or failing that, whether I can get a picture printed on my cake anywhere?

Hi Sharpie Since I'm pretty crazy about blogs, thought I'll just share these that I found that might help you. http://www.amandascookin.com/2010/08/spiderman-cake-and-homemade-marshmallow.html This one's covered with fondant and the post is pretty detailed. http://thisweekfordinner.com/2009/12/18/birthday-cake-success/ This one'smade out of a simple oval shape and has some pretty neat tips. Hope this helps a little bit. Let us know how it turns out :)

This is my favourite inspiration site for themed cakes - although there are some only a mother could love! [url=http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/spiderman-cake.html'>"Coolest Birthday Cakes"[/url'> Black writing icing is quite easy to get hold of and blue is easy to make with a normal liquid food colouring, but the deep, strong red a bit more difficult. You can get small packs of deeply coloured ready-made fondant (about 5 colours in the pack), so if you're canny about how you design it, you could do it quite easily.

It is Tavola and there are branches in Mall of the Emirates, Umm Sequiem Spinneys complex, Beach Road near Jumeriah Plaza and a small one in Mercato Centre. Good luck

Great ideas girls, thanks! I feel a bit more confident about this now. One question, where is travola?

Yes definitely travola have all the food colourings in the Wilton range which is great. If you google Spiderman cake decorations you will get some good inspiration - I did this with my son's 1 year birthday cake recently for a dinosaur, although it didn't look that great on the day... as I only had 10 mins to ice it - silly me! I would use licorice for the spiders web... Good luck!

I can't help you with the DIY, but you can definitely get a picture printed on a cake in many places in Dubai.
