Maid has to go on her annual leave and I need some help in the house as I have DD who is only 5 months old, and 2 dogs and especially since we keep getting visitors. So if you happen to be going on holiday in April or May and you have a reliable maid you can trust and who is good with children, I would be eternally grateful if she can come stay with me - of course, I would be happy to pay her salary for that month so you would have more money to spend on your vacation :D

I tried to open a subject with my maid about part time job recently. She told me...."Don't worry, I won't be doing that. I knew of a maid from building X back in Palm J who got caught and jailed for 2 months before get deported." I guess I am lucky that my maid is wise and cherish her Friday. To OP, my maid went for her holiday last December. It was really hard for me as I work full time. After her school hours, she stayed at a nursery not far from my house. As I hate ironing, I get an agency maid to come to my house once or twice a week to do it. It's not easy but it's doable.

How do the police know if someone has a maid who isn't sponsored by them? Unless someone tips them off? Do the police do random checks on houses?? Would be interesting to know.. I think they get a lot of tip-offs.

No ones jumping down her throat ...people are still willing to lend maids just like u ARE knowing its ILLEGAL. As a sponsor u can get a huge fine. I cant believe people are just willing to break the law instead of just getting an AGENCY MAID.... It happens all the time a friend of a friend just got fined over 50 k, they do alot of spot checks on apartments also there is a number where u can report people. You mean the police go to random buildings to random apartments, knock on their doors and ask to see the visas of the maid (if present)..? They check the signing in books first to see whos signed in , at the apartments. Thats how i knew someone who got caught. Dont knopw if they knock on doors at random.

I know people are trying to help, but this sounds like its getting a bit heated!! I feel sorry for you GreenQueen. She asked a simple question and people are jumping down her throat! Not nice ladies. One solution would be for the maid to stay at her sponsors house and come to you each day. That way she is not full time with you as she is still living at her own house and you are getting the benefit of the help you need. If I was going away I would happily let you have my maid. Good luck in your search for a reliable maid that someone knows and would recommend. That would still be illegal

Wow ladies - was just asking if someone has a reliable maid who's been with them for years and they can trust - to see if they're maybe going on holiday and wouldn't mind their maid staying somewhere else for a few weeks to help me out a little as I am in a fix. But that's illegal .... So you are asking for help that's illegal. You want help for a maid to live with u for a couple of months whilst someone else is sponsoring them = illegal.

Even if you "employ" a maid under someone else's sponsorship that is considered illegal. That is why so many sponsors will not allow their maids to take on extra outside work. If the maid is caught the original sponsor ends up being responsible. I don't know if you would be penalized for employing her, but the maid and the original sponsor surely will be. Best all around that you get a housemaid from an agency. Let her come in a couple of days before your housemaid goes on leave so that your girl can show her the routine and how things are done. You will pay more going that route, but at least it's legal.

I have no intentions of doing anything illegal, nor leaving my 5 month old baby with 'an illegal moonlighting maid' (where do you ladies even come up with all this stuff?!!). I certainly was not saying I'll take just some random off the street or take one of those illegal maids who have 'their own visa' as I am fully aware that is illegal.

Sounds very very risky to leave a 5 month old baby with an illegal moonlightling maid! You have no idea if someone who has been a cleaner in one home would be good at childcare in yours. What on earth would you do if anything goes wrong?? If caught there is a fine of 50-100K Can you not use a nanny agency or temporary nursery?

remember that thread about hiring illegal maids.... I would not dare hire anybody unless they were with a registered agency or I sponsored them.... It's not just about the money but what about all that time in court and dealing with the police.....:(

So if you use Ginga recommendation and the maid steels money or anything to value or has an accident in your house what will you do ? as you cant call the police unless you would like to give them 50 k. (fine)

I may know someone who was due to transfer to a new family but they let her down at the last minute. I could make enquiries if you wish. I believe she only wants something temporary.

YES it is illegal, as you'll be paying a maid sponsered by someone else, to work for you. But are the maids in the summer being paid to work somewhere else? or are they just staying there for the summer? You need to call an agency to get help whilst your maid is away.

I actually didn't think this would be illegal. I know you cannot have someone working full-time in your house unless they are under your sponsorship. But I have friends who do not like to leave their maids alone in their homes over the summer when they are away etc and so they have asked other friends if the maids can stay with them while they are away. I assumed a temporary arrangement like that would not constitute illegal hiring per se, although I suppose it would be hard to prove that!

Totally illegal!!! and I would be surprised if you didn't know that. Would you loan your maid out, knowing the risks if she or the people you loaned her out to were caught??

You'll need to employ an agency maid-anything else is illegal as someone else's maid is not under your sponsorship
