Just found that being deficient in Vitamin-D could also be a reason for it. Almost 85% of women in Dubai, where there is no dearth of sunlight, are deficient in Vitamin D.

I felt lethargic, fatigued, tired and sleepy and always yearned for a good massage. Do not take the Vit-D supplements over the counter. Better let the doctor prescribe them for you!!!

Those who had the test, does it have to be on an empty somach or can I go by the clinic one afternoon? I went there after breakfast..

I thought Hairfall was due to hormonal imbalance or something.. That's why I went to Dr. Amel Tayyab at Healthcare City. Turns out all the tests were normal except the Vit-D one.. And that's the culprit that triggers hormonal imbalance in most of the ladies..

CW & SQ what type of testing and where please? I was tested by Dr Basel Darwish (rheumatologist, Welcare Hospt). He said my blood test had to be sent away, and I think mine was different to CW's, but I cannot find my papers. Anyway it took about 8-10 days for the results. Dr Basel did not recommend injections, he preferred (maybe only in my case, not sure) to do a gradual increase. To be honest I was so tired that I could not keep awake after 7pm and was seriously sleepy all day and the aches and pains in my bones and joints was horrendous. It felt like chronic flu. I was convinced I had a deadly disease. After 3 weeks of Vit D the change in me was quite amazing. I did not have hairloss, so each person is different. I did have massive hormonal dysfunction....that was all sorted within a month or 2 of the meds. Thanks SQ. Glad to read you are feeling better. Your symptoms sound like how I feel except instead of sleeping I am tired with insomnia. Time for a trip to the doctor I think.

In my case my hairfall was a situation of stress which was out of control. I notice many people here in Dubai have the same problem but don't realize that most of this is caused by stress. Life in the UAE is quite stressful so start relaxing more. Also hair loss is a sign of thyroid problems

I got Nioxin from abroad, I don't think you can get it here... been here 3 years and the hair situation seems to be the same.

We went on holiday for 3 weeks in Dec and my hair was perfect. Came back and within a week my hair turned back to the "Dubai" quality again. Fast changes like that cannot be because of vitamin deficiency in my opinion. But I would also like to know the cause behind the hair problems.

so far I have tried the So Safe Filters, Pure Blue Filters, Argan Oil, Nioxin Hairloss Shampoo Coconut Hair Oil, and Hair Supplements. I have also been checked out at the doc's and everything is fine, BUT I STILL HAVE HAIR LOSS! is there something I have missed out other than going back home?... how long have you been here ? could it be like mine and after a few months it stops ?

For the first 2 or 3 months here mine came out by the handful !! I don't use tongs or anything, just wash n dry naturally and i use a reasonable (tho not salon) quality shampoo and conditioner... just seems to have slowed down lately though and i have no idea what caused it or why it seems to be improving. My only theory is that it could be the stress of moving coupled with poor quality water and maybe too much sun but no idea really....

If you're a woman and your hair is falling out, it is a medical problem. Would you look at a cat with patches of hair missing and say, "She washes it too often?"

really? does it get that bad? I heard that the local women don't wash their hair everyday to avoid losing hair. What Emirati women/men I know are fanatical about showering daily and yes that includes hair. Where did you hear that? :) I heard it at one of the salons the last week. I suppose I should clarify, the women washed their bodies often, just didn't wash their hair often (but don't people with thicker hair wash it less?...I thought it was supposed to be better for the hair?)

http://gulfnews.com/life-style/beauty-fashion/losing-it-1.746271 I don't have this problem. Maybe the lifestyle is important too. No fast food, not too much care (like using straigthener, hair dryer every day), good organic shampoo (not to often changing products and not to many products at the same time like shampoo, conditioner,....) is possibly the key. But I don't use any "Designer products" because lots of them have bad chemicals in it, which could cause different problems on your skin. And my organic products are cheaper then these Designer cosmetics which mostly have ingredients which can cause allergies, cancer......

When I was tested 6 months ago my levels were nearly zero and they said my body was leaching Vit D from my bones.....now I am up to 20 and they said it will be much better when I reach 50. Already I have much more energy. And the aches and pains have become less. Had similar symptoms as you SQ.. Plus lethargy and tiredness all day long..My count was around 10 and optimally it should have been 50.... I was administered an injection to fill up for the depleting levels. The counts will be tested again after 3 months. Ladies.. Vit-D deficiency also cause weight gain. Since it directly affects pancreas and kidney, it also causes hormonal imbalance. I also had really low vit D levels. One injection and my levels are perfect now :) I think we went to the same doctor, CW :)

i have 2 different water filters in the bathroom, didn't help, am on special hair vitamins, my hairloss started within a month of moving here, in my case don't think that a vit D deficiency would have set in so quickly?all i can assume is that it's the desalinated water.perhaps weakens follicles is a better description?i've started to limit hairwashes and doing final rinse with cheap bottles of mineral water, really want to hold onto those last remaining hairs... really? does it get that bad? I heard that the local women don't wash their hair everyday to avoid losing hair. surely, you can treat your scalp so that even if the water isn't the best you can discourage hair loss? I'm a big fan of Phillip kingsley--do they sell his hair products in Dubai?

just curious, do people in scandinavian/other places where there is no sun suffer from hairloss?I think its the desalinated water, just kills off the follicles... When I went back home for few months, my hair was all lustrous, shiny and absolutely no hairfall.. How can you get back the hair once the follicles are killed? Or do you mean the desalinated water causes temporary hairfall.?? I am not sure. I have tried everything from using water filters to using Tressemme shampoos and getting hair fall therapy.. Nothing seemed to work. Plus I constantly felt lethargic and fatigued... And in my case, it turned out that deficiency of Vit-D was the cause.

Stargazer, Dr. Smylie said that people who leave dubai tend to get that hair back, so maybe it doesnt kill the follicules off completely? I'm not sure how you'd figure out if you got your hair back or not if you left Dubai and went elsewhere.

It can be done at any clinic or hospital better if you ask your doc to write it down for you. No messing around with the medical terminologies. The clinic sent my samples to Al Abbar Laboratories,UBL Bank Building, Bur Dubai, Office nO- 501 04-3592641 www.medsol-me.com The name of the test was Vitamin D3(25-OH) xx

Does Dr. Carole Smylie specialise in these Vitamin tests? Would love to know where to get one of these done. I was recently diagnosed by 2 doctors as having a very weak immune system but other than Vit C they haven't suggested any others but I'm sure I must need some??
