CW & SQ what type of testing and where please?
The doctor's clinic took the blood sample but which lab... hang on.. let me get back to you once I find the reports..
i would also like to know how /where these tests are done.
i m sure my vit d levels wont be very high. get a rash in the sun, so i cover up too most of the time.
I went to Dr. Carole Smylie at the Dubai London Clinic and just told her I was suffering from hair loss and didn't know what the reason was. I also have very brittle nails. She said that this is one of the most common complaints that she gets in Dubai - at least once a day someone comes in complaining of hair loss. She said that in some cases no one knows what the real reasons is - some think it may be ther water..but no one has been able to reach a final conclusion on this. But other reasons included: Vit D deficiency, Iron Deficiency, or Thyroid problems. So i had blood tests to check on all these and Calcium as well (for my brittle nails).
Sure enough I had Iron and Vit D deficiency. Im taking iron pills for 3 months and she has asked me to take Vit D supplements (1000 IUs) FOREVER, unless i plan to change my lifestyle and get more sun on a daily basis!

This is a really thoughtful post, really! I'd never have thought too much about any links with vitamins.
I have a question too. Where do you get this tests done? is at the doctors?
I cover up alllllll the time. I notice when I don't, my darn freckles on my arms go really dark - almost brown. I hate it so I cover up. And I'm always having problem with some joint. Either my arms, hands, feet, just seem to spending a fortune on physio and it could all be down to Vit D.
Thanks for the info.
I hardly go out in the sun. The only tine I am in sun is while walking from the appt to the car and vice versa.. And being in sun for sometime doesn't help either. Our body needs UV rays of the type B and that's best available between 10 to 3. I am hardly out at this time.
Plus all the glasses be it windows or cars have UV protection as per the regulations here. So the sunlight that enters the home is bereft of the useful rays.
Do not take supplements without testing your actual levels, as they only help in maintaining the existing Vitamin d levels in the body. To increase the levels, you have to be administered an injection if you are seriously low on the vitD levels. An injection can stay good for a year but if all the stores in the body are used up and our body tends to fillup the depleting stores first then you might need another injection but that too after checking the levels after 3 months!!!
Ps.. Net connection at work has conked off. Do excuse the typos and autocorrect errors
Do you think people actually spend more time inside here thus lacking vit d? I know i do because back home in the UK I would go for a countryside ramble, even though it's colder you are still getting outside in the sunshine whereas here I am not a pool person so I feel like I am inside more.
dont ever take a supplement without a test. Too much Vit D can cause Heart trouble.
I am now taking 50,000 units per week and the levels are slowly rising.
Thanks for the info. My hair loss is getting me down and i've tested my iron levels and tried the special shampoos and shower filter. So should we be taking a supplement or just spending more time in the sun? I wonder if I am overdoing it with the sunblock.
When I was tested 6 months ago my levels were nearly zero and they said my body was leaching Vit D from my bones.....now I am up to 20 and they said it will be much better when I reach 50.
Already I have much more energy. And the aches and pains have become less.
Had similar symptoms as you SQ.. Plus lethargy and tiredness all day long..My count was around 10 and optimally it should have been 50.... I was administered an injection to fill up for the depleting levels. The counts will be tested again after 3 months.
Ladies.. Vit-D deficiency also cause weight gain. Since it directly affects pancreas and kidney, it also causes hormonal imbalance.
