This ended up being my friend hiring The Boxtones and the venue was Arabian Ranches - Birdie's Bar.

Hi, as other's have said, it is not true that Bands can only work for Hotels, Bars, etc. There are however, noise regulations for private parties, so the band will have to stop playing at a reasonably early hour, depending on your location and neighbors tolerance, 11 or 12pm. My husband plays drums with several configurations of musicians, all different types of music to suit your needs and has played Hotels (for example the Address, Armani) Bars, (Double Decker, Fibber McGee's), and private parties. there's plenty of live bands that play for pleasure that aren't contracted. Perky, are you in Dubai? I can give you contact details of several bands that have played at various Battle of the Band events in Dubai and Sharjah. This is one I know of: The Dawn Patrol are a super cool wedding and events bands. They work hard to deliver professional and high energy live music. http://dubaiweddingband.com/ If they're not suitable I'm sure they could also give you contacts of other freelance bands. Bands in Dubai are usually contracted to hotel bars and lounges and cant do freelance work legally.
