Live in maid taking on additional work
My husband and I are thinking of getting a live in maid. However we have coped for the last year or so with a maid coming once a week for four hours and think it is unlikely we will need her to do much more than say 2-3 hours a day work. The primary reason why we want a maid is because of our dogs and his extensive travel. I often go back home and when we are both travelling at the same time the dogs have to go into kennels which is both unpleasant for them and costly for us. We also have a pond, aquarium and various house plants etc. that have to be watered and fed so that is another cost (we don't like to use a daily service for the dogs and leave them alone at night for extended periods). We are hoping a maid will stay in the house and can feed the dogs when we are on holiday as well as pick up the work that was previously done by the agency. However tbh when I am here I prefer to do my own cooking, washing etc. I prefer to walk the dogs myself, groom them myself and my husband likes to feed them. So would only leave the basic cleaning and ironing to the maid.
Now my query is that if we employ a full time live in maid and she has a lot of free time is she allowed to take on additional hours for other people, I ask because our next door neighbours maid previously asked us if she could take on some extra hours with us (but we already had an agency one). I mean it will be her choice but if she wants to top up her salary I won't object the question is is it legal?
