Came back to find hundreds of tiny smears (like water marks) on the stainless steel panel below the glass door of the oven. She claims she just used Windowlene! I cant get the marks off even with fairy liquid, vinegar and WD 40.
Any ideas what she must have done and what I can do to repair it? Times like this I really miss my maid free days :(

Does it really matter... 'the bottom panel...etc' No one crawls around looking for smeared stainless steel appliances. At least you know it's clean!

This is SO easy to sort out.................are you ready? 1/ Know your own oven, and learn how to care for it. 2/ Clean your own oven ( oow -I know it takes 5 minutes, but hey?) 3/ COOK on your own oven (I know -crazy isn't it? ) 4/ shoot your maid-then you know for SURE it won't happen again-because it really is a life changing episode isn't it? How ARE you expected to cope??? Love it!

Do you have any other sprays in your house she could have used? Try baking powder with a damp sponge, rinse well and buff with dry cloth. There is barkeeper's friend sold at Lakeland.

LIA, you can get Barkeepers Friend at Lakeland at Mirdiff City Centre. It's a white powder that comes in a small bottle like container. My friend recommended it to me for stained sinks :-)

I feel for you. I have lost count of the number of things that have been ruined by a maid and they really don't care. Yesterday I found one of my wedding photos has been sprayed with some sort of cleaner and totally ruined. Goodness knows why the photo was sprayed as opposed to the frame, but regardless these things should just be dusted. Hope you get it fixed.

Agree with DollyMud - Smeg is seriously high maintenance. For the steel - use baby wipes and towel residue off or baby oil on cotton wool.

She's done it on purpose coz she's jealous. My maid put the iron down on my brand new beige carpet, strategically placed so a rug couldn't cover it, they're all the same bejayzuz...

I second the olive oil approach. Or you can use baby oil in the same way. I do this for all my stainless steel stuff - always comes up looking brand new!

Well, I'm gonna jump to the defence of the maid ( on this occasion! ) I have the smeg range cooker and dishwasher and apart from when it arrived new it was never streak free, it's a pain, I did the same cleaned glass with windex and it streaks the steel as does water and a cloth! I clean mine myself ( outside, not the oven , I'm not mad !) first clean the glass with windex, then get a piece of cotton wool or kitchen paper and put a tiny bit of olive oil on it and rub into the steel and polish off it comes up better than new, I know it sounds random using olive oil but it works, and is not chemical! Seriously don't try scrubbing with anything else because your maid is probably telling the truth! They are so delicate these smeg appliances, I've had two new tops on dishwasher as they bubbled !

Windolene would not do that, ask her again as it sounds like she's sprayed a corrosive liquid on it which has damanged the steel - you could use a steel cleaner, I like Fairy Power Disolve comes in a green spray bottle but only apply to the sponge first then wipe
