Thinking of going early - mid May. Start of monsoon season. Has anyone been around this time - does it pour for hours or more like a tropical shower? Thanks .

We are trying to plan our holiday, can you recommend a travel Agent, or let me know how you booked your Maldives holiday. thanks We took advantage of the Qatar 2 for 1 offer, then looked at several websites. When we had chosen where we wanted to go, Expedia was the most competitive website, but the hotel website direct was still £250 cheaper than Expedia! It's all a matter of which suppliers use which resorts. The agent at AR could not help us because their suppliers didn't deal with our resort.

I gave them a few hotels that I liked and all were available for the dates we wanted. I also found Agoda.com had some good hotel rates.

We booked the flights with Emirates (if you have the airmiles card you can use the points as well to book your flight) and the hotel direct. South seems to be dryer than North, and again, either way the weather will be gorgeous, with the odd shower in the evening (which is nice as we live in such a dry country)

We just booked a week in May too using the Qatar 2 for 1 deal. Is it better to be in the north or the south in May?

I was in The Maldives last year mid-may and the weather was gorgeous. It can make a difference if you're further north or further south, though overall you'll have gorgeous days, small showers in the evening (also gorgeous and refreshing) and gorgeous evenings. I have splendid memories of the sunsets skies at that time of the year. Enjoy!

Same as the last person we went in April and we also had showers and very hard rain most nights but that did not stop the nice days on the beach and in the great sea, enjoy.

I have been in April before and had showers most afternoons for an hour or so. It soon dried up once the showers stopped and didn't spoil the holiday. Hope you enjoy it, we are going again in August and I can't wait :)

We had been to Maldives in May before, and I remember it rained for a couple hours at a time, and we were still able to do some snorkeling and such in the morning. Keep in mind that during summer monsoon season, one should expect strong winds and heavy rain showers occur more than often, and can last anywhere from a couple of hours to several days at a time. We were also there once in July and it rained almost non-stop during our 4 day stay there :( and my family went to an island close to the one we stayed at on the day we left and had 5 straight days of sunny beautiful weather! So it depends on luck as well :) Having said that, we are going next month again and I will pray for good weather :) Have a great time!
