I don't know any of you, but the support you have all given me is amazing. It really means alot to me that there are some very kind people out there who are willing to help strangers :) xxxx
hi Wiggywig, if you can let me have your email address as I have just gone through Mammogram & Ultrasound, followed by another Ultrasound, followed by a needle biopsy, then followed by a lumpectomy, I can give you details on my experience, and I would have to say that I have been under a Consultant at the Well Woman Clinic and all I can say is that I would recommend anyone to use the Well Woman clinic - hope this helps - if not take care and good luck:)

I read that before I went for mine! It's just one of those things that we all have to do at some point, there's no two ways about it. It's uncomfortable, yes it can hurt a bit, but better to get things checked. And honestly try not to worry too much, I wound myself up into a right state and then had nothing to really worry about. You'll be fine and you know that we're all here to support you. Good luck :)

Good luck, Wiggywig, the actual experience is better than the advance worrying. And if there is, by some mischance, something wrong, at least you will have caught it well in time. And we'll be here to help you, please don't hesitate to ask if you need something.
:) Appreciate that. Feeling alot more positive at the moment x
Are mammograms painful? Not really, just uncomfortable. I mean it's like squishing your boob in the door of a fridge!
And let's face it, that's all part of an average day for your average Expat Woman..
LOL sorry. I was remembering this, which I found quite amusing:
Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for the week preceding the exam and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared. And best of all, you can do these simple practice exercises right in the privacy of your own home.
Exercise #1: Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Press the bookends against one of your breasts. Smash the bookends together as hard as you can. Repeat with the other breast. Set an appointment with the stranger to meet next year and do it again.
Exercise #2 Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure. Hold that position for five seconds. Do this again in case the last time wasn't effective enough. Then repeat with the other breast.
Exercise #3 Visit your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature of the concrete floor is just perfect. Take off all your warm clothes and lay comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until the breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn over and repeat for the other breast.
CONGRATULATIONS! Now you are properly prepared for your mammogram.
So glad I have had mine done, would be absolutely petrified after this :)

Hi wiggywig
As Chocs01 has said try not to worry to much it is easier said than done I know. I am sure they just want to check that everything is ok. I had my first here last month and wasn't as bad as I had thought! I did however have an ultrasound done at same time so maybe it depends on your doctor and of course cost.
I had two lumps investigated years ago!! But everything was fine so try not to worry.
All the bestxx
May I ask if it was painful? I'm getting one next week...Try to get your ultrasound asap so you don't have to worry for too long. Good luck!
Thank you. My ultrasound in on Sunday morning. Sorry to have to tell you this but it was painful, but only for about 5 seconds at a time. Good luck with yours :)
wiggywig, in my experience, it's easier to say this than to actually do it, but try not to worry, unless they actually do give you something to worry about. Dense areas could be anythig really, but they honestly won't know until they get a clearer look, hence the ultra sound.
