Middle name help!

We're stuck with middle names for our beautiful little newborn baby girl, Madeline. We both love the name....but now DH and I are thinking of flipping a coin for the middle name, we are seriously at loggerheads. He refuses to have anything other than Grace, and I won't back down on Alice. His sister likes Alice, my mom likes Grace. My brother-in-law, sister-in-law and best friend like Grace while his two friends and my dad like Alice.

So, opinions? Which name is better, Madeline Grace or Madeline Alice?

Both my sister and I have 2 middle names. Her initials spell CAMP while mine are MCNP, not a word. Natalie is actually one of my middle names. Don't ask how that happened. edited by natalie8 on 10/04/2011

Have 2 middle names! There are so many decisions you and your husband will have to compromise on while your beautiful girl grows up.

If you can't agree, then maybe you need to choose another name completely! Agree :)

Another vote for Grace. However, have a think about the initials and that may be the deciding factor... If your last name is Donaldson or Thompson or O'Brien, you could have an M.A.D or M.A.T or a M.A.O--not too nice, eh? Just a thought! How funny, just what I was thinking! I also love the name Grace.

Why not add both and then everyone's happy?

Does your DD NEED a middle name? We started down that road and realised that both of us had them and never used them except when filling out forms. If your DD'd first name and surname has a nice ring then why worry about a middle name and it will save all the hassle :)

In the end, all three names sounded lovely together, Madeleine Elizabeth Rose, so that is now her name! Heh I'm glad to hear we're not the only one with children with four names. Although in our case it's a first name, a middle name, and two surnames :).

So......what about the names of either,or even both grandmothers? Much more meaningful than something out of a book............

I once read in a baby names book that it can be a good idea to avoid names that end then start with vowels ie. Madelin[u'>e[/u'> [u'>A[/u'>lice, as they can be a bit clumsy to say. Not saying this is always true but maybe something to bear in mind. Congrats on your little girl!

Have both. We also have a Madeleine, and although we both were 100% on that name, we bickered over the middle names. We originally agreed on Elizabeth as this is my middle name, but I always loved Rose or Rosie (our surname begins with an R, so DH wasn't keen). In the end, all three names sounded lovely together, Madeleine Elizabeth Rose, so that is now her name!

I love Alice and wanted to call my daughter Alice but DH wasn't into it. Madeline Grace does have a nice ring to it and rolls off the tongue a little easier. I like the idea of not having a middle name especially if your surname is unusual. Or, pick another middle name altogether. How about Madeline Rose!!?

If you can't agree, then maybe you need to choose another name completely! Or...if Madeline was the primary choice of one of you, then maybe the other needs to get the deciding vote on the middle name (that's what happened with our children...with no.1 DH chose first name and I chose second, and with no. 2 it was the other way around).

Oh gosh yes, sorry, I like the sound of Madeline Grace too. BUT there is so much more to choosing a name than simply the sound. Good luck, and many congratulations on the birth of your little Madeline. xx

Madeline Grace sounds lovely but if you both can't agree, perhaps do without the middle name?

Madeline Alice is too much of a Tongue twister, try saying it a few times out aloud it doesn't fall off the tongue easily. Sorry it's another vote for Madeline Grace. Congratulations on your baby girl and good luck with either name you choose. edited by Dally on 09/04/2011

Madeline Grace does have a nicer ring to it.... very popular name again now at least in the UK. I know quite a few over the last few years who have either used it as a first or middle name. Many congratulations to you both anyway...

What is the first letter of your surname, put all initials together and this might help you decide. Personally I like Madeline Grace. Good Luck and congratulations
