Hi everyone! This is my first ever message....hope I do it right! I've been reading all your contributions for the last few months and have finally plucked up the courage to join. Sorry that this is yet another request for info about were to live. Unfortunately we aren't able to move until August, which I know from your messages is not the best. I think we will be moving into A.R. but there seems to be lots of different areas - are any better than others? We are only bringing one teenage boy so I hope I will still get to meet people as I probably wont be doing the school run etc. Are there plenty of teens living on AR? Or is it younger families? WE are REALLY looking forward to coming, but a bit nervous too! Hope you can help. Thank you.

Not sure Beanie as I've never taken it myself ! I think it's about every 20mins, but as it's a shuttle I think they just turn up...

Thanks, again! Plum2 am going to get straight on to those agents you mentioned. Moscow, the bus sounds great. How often does it run around AR? :)

Mirador is another area to consider in AR. The villas in Alma will be too small for your family if you want 5 bedrooms!

Hi Beanie. JESS AR is a great school, but be aware that it does IB in the 6th form and that doesn't suit everyone. English College does A levels. So school choice may depend on the age of your teenager and his preference/how long you plan to stay. AR is a good place to live and even if you're not within bike/walk distance of JESS, some kids now catch the bus which tootles round the Ranches and then down to MOE. There's a stop right outside the school and the fare is peanuts.

House hunters and Better Homes both have sales/rental places within the AR shopping Centre. You should be able to look at their websites. Your son will be able to cycle to school from anywhere in the Ranches really. The closest communities would be Saheel, Savannah, Alma and Avenida I think. You would find 5 beds in Saheel and Savannah.

Thanks for responding, what a great site this is! Teenager will be chuffed to hear that he will be able to cycle to school and do stuff without us. :) Which are the areas within cycle distance of JESS? Probably looking for 5 beds.

we've been here 6 months and are very happy at AR. Eldest is at Jess but we had no hope of getting youngest in - older years seem to have more places.. His social life is really good - lots of friends here and he can safely go off to the malls, pictures or concerts without us. And he can make his own way to school - 10 minutes by bike.

It depends on your allowance but there's quite a range here in AR from town homes to individual villas. We pay 230K for our 5 bedroom type 15 in Mirador and negotiated the rent but it needed some major elbow grease and we had to redo the yard on our own dime.

We have got school place offers for teenager at English college and JESS AR. Does anyone have an opinion on either of these schools? Thought probably JESS as have heard AR is a nice place to live. By the way, are there many villas available? Read an earlier message that seemed to imply there weren't many.

Hi. I'm in Saheel in AR. Good for access onto umm Suqeim Rd (towards Mall of the Emirates) and Emirates Rd in both directions. I have 2 teenagers at Dubai College. They use the school bus. Weekends: There is a bus service to MOE but we tend to drive them around a fair bit to activities, parties etc. Have you got a school place sorted?

Corkshelly I'm in Mirador. Email me and let's see if we can get together. I'm trying to host a coffee next Wednesday April 6th. Well behaved kids welcome. ;-) I've thought about doing the coffee mornings but I have my boys and don't have live in help so if it's not child friendly I can't attend. edited by SunDevil on 29/03/2011

There are tons of teenagers here on the Ranches. My 16 year old has had a great social life in the last 3 years especially as she attended JESS. There is also a ladies group called the Ranches Ladies who are very active, we meet every Tuesday morning at the golf club at 9.30 infact we have a chef doing a demo for us tomorrow and we have an active calendar of clubs and events so look us up when you get here.

I don't have teenagers as my boys are 4 and 2 but we moved to AR last month and love it here. We moved from AD and DH does the commute. We should have moved years ago to AR. The only problem with this place is you never see anyone out. I figured I'd make tons of friends since I'm a SAHM and I take my boys to the park and pool but I never see a soul. It's just me and the maids at the park during the day. So even though I'm surrounded by families, I'm so lonely.

I cannot help on your query on the teenage part but one recommendation: decide on the school and put him on the waiting list now. later it may be too hard to find a slot!

Good luck with the move-my teens are all grown up and we live down the other end of Dubai so can't help either-just wanted to wish you all the best.
