I don't have a problem with secks. (***). (I said on another thread, on babyfit, a few of our board members got banned for constant use of the word vagina - on a pregnancy board. I mean, the vagina is a pretty vital part in conception and birth). Oh my goodness! That is so sad that vagina is considered a 'bad' word! It's the correct term for a body part which as the say, is pretty vital and relevant to having babies! Madness, utter madness. Couldn't agree more re Eminem, I love him :) edited by Daza on 23/09/2013

Why are people coy about using the word "sēx"? It's the correct scientific word to describe a completely normal, everyday physical process that is essential to the survival of the human race (and indeed all creatures). If it's censored on this forum, then it's going to be amusing when people try to post about Middlesēx University, which has recently opened in Dubai and is currently advertising on the radio. Will it pass as part of a word 'Middlesex' rather just as '***'? Website censorship can be funny, I love this story about [url=http://revealingerrors.com/tyson_homosexual'>Tyson Gay[/url'> very funny !! I was on a forum once that used to do that - substitute words with innocuous words like toast or hamster... met someone once who said she came from Stoasthorpe :D

It seems quite a recent thing that songs with dodgy lyrics are so mainstream. There is much much worse out there (Ice T's 99 Problems springs to mind) but in the past you'd have to specifically buy songs with such content, they wouldn't just be played on the radio. It works both ways, Rihanna's Rude Boy sexualised men in not a very flattering way.

Your lucky husband :D :-P (sorry, had to do it) I don't have a problem with secks. (***). (I said on another thread, on babyfit, a few of our board members got banned for constant use of the word vagina - on a pregnancy board. I mean, the vagina is a pretty vital part in conception and birth). Secks aside, I just read the lyrics and thought how bad they were. A well written soft porn would be better than that! I think we could write an equally secksual song, maybe even more dirty, as the better your grasp on language, the better you can communicate messages, than this. As for the video, as I said, Alejandro by Gaga was worse, IMHO. And let's not forget Eminem. The song where he kills Kim in the lyrics (and sound fx). But I'm forgiving of him as I think he is a brilliant writer. He doesn't go for cheap McDonald's hits, like this. His lyrics are poetry. edited by EmmaRitz on 23/09/2013 edited by EmmaRitz on 23/09/2013

Ditto Simpleasabc. To me there is no rape reference in Thicke's song. It sounds like something someone would say to a lover in private. Same as Talk dirty to me, Jason Derulo, same as Gorilla, Bruno Mars- private conversation between lovers during s*x. Whether it should be sung about or not, should be the debate. Exactly, Chocobella. If people must sing about it, then I think that kind of song should not be broadcast on a radio station which has a large audience of children until after a "watershed" time of night. More difficult to monitor the videos available to children, of course. I'd never heard of this particular song till I saw this thread and even now, I've only read the lyrics, not listened to the song or watched the video. Just in case you weren't posting tongue in cheek, Madge Gustard, Middlesex University has been here a long time. I think people have to use variations of the word "sox" on EW because of censorship by the Admin.

To my knowledge the song is about a guy trying to get a girl to cheat on her bf.... not very classy but not exactly the end of the world.... its an annoying song that doesn't deserve the attention its getting and i doubt the guy is clever enough for subversive lyrics! Wish him and that viley cyrus*(hoots) would cover up and b*gger off!

As a teacher I always find it horrifying when children sing songs like this, yeah they dont understand the lyrics but it exposes them to sexual content at such a young age.

I know for many its just a song on the radio, but I wish more people would take pop culture at more than face value, considering its huge impact on youth and even ourselves on a subconscious basis, and dig deeper. Nobody is questioning the standard and all the while the standard is slipping. For women, for our daughters, for our collective sense of self respect, for whatever we have achieved so far, in some ways we as women in this day and age have never been more demeaned and are being objectified like never before on a global level of mass stereotyping. http://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013/09/17/from-the-mouths-of-rapists-the-lyrics-of-robin-thickes-blurred-lines-and-real-life-rape/ http://unseenflirtspoetry.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/rap-genius-is-blurred-lines-the-most-frighteningly-sexist-song-of-2013/ http://thebottomline.as.ucsb.edu/2013/09/blurred-lines-defined-lines-and-double-standards-how-our-mainstream-media-remains-the-biggest-enforcer-of-gender-stereotypes

I'm reading it as rough consensual bedroom exploits - 100 Shades of Grey, perhaps?

I'm having trouble understanding where you get the part that she's crying and he doesn't like it. I've read the lyrics now a few times and unless I'm horrible at reading into it, I just don't see it. here the part of her in pain: Shake the vibe, get down, get up Do it like it hurt, like it hurt What you don't like work? Baby can you breathe? I got this from Jamaica It always works for me, Dakota to Decatur, uh huh No more pretending Hey, hey, hey Cause now you winning Hey, hey, hey Here's our beginning I don't understand what any of those lyrics mean...

Don't really want to get bogged down in this but the expression of splitting in half is simply a common male way of bragging about the size of his um...you know.... If only it was a comment.....please do not get this out of the whole lyrics....otherwise you are a man and sure have no idea what is this all about. Last time I would say it: read the whole lyrics and you can see for yourself the song is about one situation that the dude seen a girl, he eyed her, then he forces his way on her, describing the whole thing is not s ex, this is rape......if you can't see it....well....I have my doubts you can understand the woman point of view, a woman or a man who have daughters will understand what is this all about. This is only my opinion and you are entitled to your opinion, however I do stand my ground if something degrading someone for the sake of someones else or thinking men can tell what women want - particularly on this issue - s ex - I did see last week a very interesting documentary about s ex education in east Germany and west Germany.... surprisingly discovered that east Germany had freedom in that matter in early 50s, that they did protect women - hence the population after WWII women were more than men - 8 M women with no husbands who died in the war, women did work everything, got education, and sure they had the freedom of choosing the s ex partners, as s ex industry were forbidden by law, they did show videos of s ex education in schools - mix schools - talking about that NO means NO, and that's why when the girl says NO the boy have to stop, full stop, and when the pill was invented, in women day they did provide it for free for ever girl and every woman, just to stop the marriage because the girl fell pregnant. While the west - the free one - did segregate boys and girls- no one discussed s ex, and assumed it was bad thing to discuss at home, the church did not discuss it likewise...... what make me bring all this that since 50s the eastern Germany did teach boys and girl[b'>[u'> NO means NO,[/u'>[/b'> and it was interesting to see that in that time everything were discussed except politics, and in west Germany everything were discussed except s ex. edited by Gorobattie on 22/09/2013

ok so I read the lyrics and apart from being repetitive there was absolutely nothing to suggest a rape, just s ex...only bad words are b*tch and @ss, otherwise I could copy and paste them here... How about the part he will split her into half? what about the (good girl) want it BUT not saying she want it? what about the part she is crying while her is(doing) her and he doesn't like her crying? I think s ex is not about someone (assuming ) that this good girl want it but not saying she want it? s ex is consensual, not someone KNOW she want it but saying no....no means no, when someone says that this girl - any girl - says no means yes but she is a good girl that's why she won't say yes?!!!! first time i heard the song it did stop me, another 3 hours it did play again and this time I wanted to hear it, what strikes me the wording : ((you want to hug me? what rimes with hug me?)) and then going down the road saying he have something from such country that will split her - ahem - into 2!!!!! then the part she is not happy and crying......I can go on and on about this, it does promote rape culture that every girl want it - rape - and even if she said NO, that is a green light for the dude to keep on what he is doing as she want this to happen..... then you read about s ex offenders that the victim wanted it, she asked for it, she provoked him, and that makes areal castro a victim himself!!!! this kind of songs that comes with easy music on the ears, and it become part of the culture and the ideas of the listeners....... English is not my first language so I do keep my attention so I do not let things I do not understand or I do not welcome in my home to sneak in my children's lives... and whom think this is about s ex, please think again about the nest stranger WHO wants you and force his way on you, then come back and say it was just s ex.......I do not hope any one encounter this, the student in the bus that some scumbags do this to her and then raped her with a bar that got her intestines out of her body, as they assumed she enjoyed it even if she said NO. Gorobattie Out of this thread.

Robin Thicke's response to the criticism is [url=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/18/robin-thicke-blurred-lines-rapey_n_3461215.html'>here[/url'> I have to say I don't really understand what he is trying to say. Does he understand himself? It's all a bit weird. Thicke by name, thick by nature by the looks of things.

It was intended to shock and sell, and it has, so its been quite widely reported in the media that this song alludes to rape. With half dressed women (while the men are fully dressed) just takes it down to the lowest basic level there is. How dumbed down have we become that something as derogatory as this is acceptable and viewed normally? The title itself is a clue, when a no could mean a yes. As an aside, his name is just, I have to stop myself giving an eye-roll, everytime I hear it. I read the blurred lines as her being a "good" girl yet wanting to get dirty....

ON a day when 59 people have been murdered in a shopping centre with more held hostage and 60 people have been murdered in an attack on a church with over 100 injured, you are worried about a song? Switch it off and worry about something important Who says nobody is worried about that? Just because it's not being discussed here doesn't mean it's not on anybody's mind. I have not heard the "song" or watched the video clip but out of curiosity I googled the lyrics. It's nasty. It's beyond nasty really and I can't understand anyone would like it. The lyrics are absolutely disgusting and yes it does glorify rape in a very smart and subtle way. Really what woman would like this kind of trash? I think the people who are complaining about the lyrics must have had to read them somewhere - I certainly couldn't make out half of what he was singing !! lol and if you think it's about rape then I think you must be misunderstanding something.... To be honest I don't think it's that bad, and certainly not as bad as some other stuff that's around.. Well that's what the song is about isn't it? The lyrics. Google them and read for yourself. It's vile, and it IS about rape. It's clear I am not missing anything since I stopped wasting my time on music all together. well, it's all subjective isn't it ? There are many things in this world that I find impossible to comprehend in this day and age but to be honest, pop music isn't one of them....
