Literally just got off the plane from a trip. Hang in there everyone. Our website/support group is nearly ready to go I will put up info as soon as we are ready. So looking forward to hearing more about the group . I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's , have been struggling with hypothyroidism for a few years . Very disheartened trying to loose weight by diet and exercise and getting now where . So not fair ! Me too, had a recent diagnosis which explains a lot of the same for me. Agree a support group will be great. Have started taking selenium daily as well as following a gluten free diet in a hope that combined with levothyroxine I will start to feel better sooner rather than later.

OMG can't believe I found this information....I'm close to tears and at the end of my rope. I have Hashimotos Disease and many of the ailments that go with it. I am seeing Anna Sepiolo at Dubai London Clinic on Al Wasl and she's well aware of the RT3 role and will do full blood tests for you ;) Thanks Quizzme, I am seeing her too, and love her, however, she looked at my TSH only.. I guess I will have to ask for more blood tests!

Firstly good news. Myself and another Ew lady are setting up a website/ forum for UAE thyroid sufferers. We hope to be live in next month or so. Will keep you posted. There are so many of us here suffering so hopefully we can all help each other. My dr is away on vacation but I will email with his details . Also one of the previous posters is absolutely correct. The role of .reverse t3 is actually so important and hardly ever taken into consideration. Through a lot of detective work I have found a lab here in Dubai that will test for .rt3. My dr is not an expert but he has an open mind, non judgemental and believes in NDT and the role of T3 and that is huge. He didn't know much about it when I went to him, but we worked with a functional medicine specialist in London and learned with each other along the way. He is fully supportive of my doing this website. The biggest issue we face here is that we have to source our own meds but it is well worth it in the long run. He will give you a script but he can't bring them in himself. The other thing that I can't stress enough is keep your iron intake up. So called normal values are not enough for us Right now I am a little out of balance and struggling with a few issues because my iron levels dropped while I was away for my daughters wedding. Good news ladies. I chatted with my dr and he is happy to monitor you. As long as you can source the NDT/ Amour or T3. He cannot provide it. Chocobella and stylex1 I will make contact with you. If anyone else wants his details please leave your email. He is a GP but a true convert now to this way of thinking as he has been on this journey with me and has literally seen me get my life back. There is so much evidence now that T4 alone is useless. As I said before it is not a Stand alone treatment, you have to monitor all the other stuff too. You won't get better overnight either The first step is to heal your gut with lots probiotics and if necessary going off gluten and dairy to give it a break. Build your iron up. Even higher than normally suggested. T3 will not work with low iron, check zinc, magnesium and most importantly heal your adrenals. Take an adaptogen like licorice root . I use something called adrenastim and adrenacalm. You can buy it online. I won't be around that much in next week or two as my daughters wedding is on 25 but leave a message and I will help anyone I can. I feel fantastic(this horrible flu ) aside. Hi, I had the same issue where all levels were normal but I was feeling really bad. I then had both Free T3 (active) and Reverse T3 (inactive) tested and my Reverse T3 was up the roof. We're since changing the meds to bring it down and it is helping me. There are a lot of talks about the role of the Reverse T3, worth checking what your levels are.

Reviving this thread as I found it to be very informative. I'm wondering if any of you have had TSH high, however, T3 and T4 within the normal range?? I have also insulin resistance and PCOS. I have started taking Euthyrox and Metformin, but I feel worse since! I seem to be having most of the side effects from Euthyrox.. not sure what to do?

What a great thread! My mum and sister suffer from hypothyroidism and have urged me to get myself checked as I am displaying the same symptoms. What is the procedure to have yourself checked for hypothyroidism. Is it just a blood test? I need a doctor that is affordable as my current insurance wont pay for that. TIA.

The TPA website is a huge help it is UK based but I just asked and I was able to join. Sadly Dr Gordon skinner one of their advisors died few weeks ago and Dr Barry Peatfield has been ill in the hospital but Sheila the lady who runs it is extremely helpful.

I am seeing my dr tomorrow and will chat to him. We cannot get it here and have to bring it In ourselves. We have been on a journey together learning along the way. He doesn't profess to know everything bur he has an open mind and that is huge in this disease. I have battled for 8 years to get on an even keel. The other thing that is so important is that NDT or T3 are not stand alone treatments. You have to support your adrenals and address gut issues with lots probiotics and iron is the key to everything. I feel for you all I had to go overseas to get on the right track but sadly two of the main leading lights in enlightened thyroid drs have died this past year . If my dr here is ok with me putting out his name I am happy to share it but I cannot compromise my own treatment or him so must check with him first. Hope you understand. In this town one has to be careful. I just wish we could have a specialist clinic only for this horrid disease.

I have recently started bio identical hormone treatment for many of the ailments mentioned in the thread. I went to Eternity medical clinic at the Marina. After two weeks of treatment, I am a whole new person... I am over the moon, I can't believe how much better I feel....have even breezed through christmas with the mother in law in good humour! Anyways - the clinic is flashy, their system is slick, and it is not cheap. But I can't recommend it enough. They prescribe via the compounding pharmacy in healthcare city, which is apparently the only compounding pharmacy in the Middle East. You could always work backwards and check with the compounding pharmacy which clinics/doctors they work with.

Reviving this old thread seeking help. I am asking the same question as Nutellagirl. Does anyone know of any doctor who is willing to try NDT like ERFA, Armour and Nature Thyroid? I have over active thyroid and diabetes and I saw a great endocrinologist at Al Zahra Hospital in Dubai (the new one in Al Barsha). He was a consultant endocrinologist in UK. Having seen a few doctors in other hospitals/clinics before I was not impressed until I saw this doctor. I will not go anywhere else!
