Thanks Wildmint, think I will be taking a copy of the information on the official website, which registration centre did your husband go to so I know to avoid it? We went to the Knowledge Village brunch, inside Tulip Inn. These rules are such rubbish:( edited by Wild Mint on 04/02/2012

My old passport with the visa in it was stolen so I have a new passport and only a copy of the visa which is still valid, do you think it will be ok? I had a look at the Emirates Identity Authority website and it states Dubai residents will not get fined till after 1st June, 2012. http://www.eida.gov.ae/en/process-and-fees/registration-process.aspx If you are a Government or semi government employee then fines are being enforced from now, I believe Emirates employees fall under this category. [b'>Kerebler and Wild Mint do you or your husbands work for a Government organisation as I dont understand why fines are being enforced when it actually states on their official website Dubai residents have until the 1st of June. [/b'> My husband is on the freezone visa, he works for the private company. He argued with them as he was really ****** off about the fine. He ended up paying anyway.

oh shoot!!! Can anyone tell me exactly what documents I need and the process to get this ID, also do you need to take your original passport as I am out of the country so I am hoping my husband can do mine and his with just my passport copy...... Yes you do need your original passport and for the first application you need to have your finger prints taken.

Myself and DH applied about 10 days ago. 2 days later HE got an SMS that he has to pay 400DHS fine. Almost at the same time I got an SMS informing me that my ID card was ready. How come DH was fined but i wasn`t?

hopefully there was a blip in the system and after everyone's finished complaining they'll stop until June. Your fine would still only be form Jan though (about 700 so far)

I've had my id card for a few years but just discovered it expired in Oct 2011. I wonder how bad my fine will be.

you can shoot me as it doesn't actually hurt over the internet. Imagine those poor b*ggers at the typing centre and the grief they're going to get.

I know numerous people who have been fined in the last couple of weeks. The newspapers neglected to tell the whole story; if your visa runs out BEFORE 31 May you have until 1 Jun to renew without a fine otherwise be prepared to get your purse out!

I have no idea. The typing centre where I had to pay the fine said people have been fined since 1st Jan and it made sense as I applied for mine on 5th Jan and my fine was 100. I know what the newspapers say but that's not what is going on in reality. If it was just me then I would say it was some jobs worth trying it on but it's happened to many. Don't shoot the messenger!

and where does 1st Jan come from? http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/id-deadline-extended-dh20-a-day-fine-2011-09-14-1.418572 ID deadline extended; Dh20-a-day fine Nationals: Oct 31; Expats in N. Emirates: Dec 1; Sharjah expats: Feb 1; AD expats: April 1; Dubai expats: Jun 1 By Staff Published Wednesday, September 14, 2011 Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has set the final deadlines for the application of the Emirates ID by nationals and expatriate residents, after which a daily fine of Dh20 (up to a maximum of Dh1,000) will be charged, Eida said in a media statement on Wednesday. The final deadline for UAE nationals to enrol their names in the Population Register and ID Card (PRIDC), prior to implementing the fine is October 31, 2011, while for expatriates above 15 years of age, the registration deadlines are a bit relaxed, and will be implemented in four phases: December 1, 2011: All expatriates in the Northern Emirates (Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman), in addition to all employees in the federal and local public sector and semi-government organisations and their families. but you can do at the same time as your visa renewal now, I think..so this will affect some people... http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/eida-confirms-no-deadline-for-2012-visas-2012-01-28-1.439883 The UAE national identity authority (EIDA) on Saturday confirmed again that expatriates whose visas expire before the end of 2012 are exempt from new deadlines set for residents to register with the national identity.

Quick go now! I applied on the 5th January and after i did my finger prints etc, I then got a 5 day fine so it looks like they started fining from the 1st of Jan. There were many people complaining that the deadline is supposed to 31st May but we still had to pay, (I blame myself but to be fair we were told something different) Just thought I'd warn you if you were planning on leaving to the deadline - it could be very expensive.
