i think if dogs are aggressive/not trained the owners should be very careful about walking them in residential areas let alone off their lead...
where i live there are 2 very aggresive dogs that are walked often but clearly not trained... the dogs almost attacked my dog and myself this morning whilist on our walk it was extremely scary... the owner just had no control...
I've seen a rottweiler attack a small dog around the lake of the springs 15 a few months ago, the owner ran off crying with her little dog, I think the rottie had killed it, I would like to know the outcome of this?
This is the big lake so the rottie could of been from springs 15, 14, 11 ?? Anyone know?

Am a dog lover as well as dog owner here! Big dog actually. Although he's a very gentle dog,I would never ever take him out without leash! He's big and playful, but he will not seem that way to a 2 yo child who might be terrified by him!!
In the case of the aggressive dog, think the owner need training. Try to talk to the owner first, because if you report to the police or DM, the one that might suffer in the end will be the dog!!
In case the owner doesn't react, then report him, not the dog, please! ;)
Dogs are not allowed off the leash in the Springs. Please report this dog and owner as soon as possible. I live in the Springs and my children play in the parks and an aggressive dog roaming free is not acceptable.
Dogs are not allowed off the leash in ANY residential area!
Actually, dogs must be on a leash in any public place (ie outside of your yard). "Dangerous" breeds as identified by the DM must also have a muzzle in public.
I really dislike animal owners who act irresponsibly as it affects every one else! Dog owners have to have more restrictions put on them, non-owners are fearful of dogs attacking them...it's a real lose-lose situation!
It isn't just non-dog owners who are fearful of being attacked. I have 2 dogs who I always walk on a leash, they have done training and socialisation, however, if a dog approaches them while they are on leads it always ends up with blood shed. I don't understand why an owener would just let their dog roam out on it's own or without a leash. First of all it puts people at risk, it puts other animals at risk, it is illegal for it to be out without a leash, and nobody is picking it's poo up!! If you can't be responsible don't have animals.

I agree with the comments about training. But dogs also need good, regular exercise. So many dog owners here don't walk their dogs at all, let alone daily. Through this, dogs also meet and get the chance to play with other dogs. The dog mentioned is probably bored and has not been sufficiently socialised with other dogs. Just because its wamerer here than most of our native climates, it doesn't mean that dogs don't need to be exercised. Sorry for the rant, I too am a dog owner and feel really strongly about the poor care that some people give to their pets here.
So you know LL the dog is allowed to run loose unsupervised and has shown aggression in the past (nothing serious reported here). A well trained dog no matter the breed is a joy forever. Idiot owners who do not supervise their dogs should be drawn and quartered.
I totally agree, untrained is the first crime, unsupervised is the 2nd crime ...................... to do both together is totally unforgivable!!!! And I agree that owners that do not take on both commitments of both training then supervising need to be hung drawn and quartered, & its neither fair on the dogs!!!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear :-( I grew up as a child with 2 dobermans (alledgedly agressive) then once the Dobes departed we had a rottweiler for 15 yra (again alledgely agressive). The thing with dogs big and small alike is they NEED TRAINING!!!!! If a dog hasnt been trained be it small or large then it shouldnt be out on the streets nor in the family home ....
I've not read this thread in full, I've just jumped on as I feel so strongly re dogs, training and the way the press poorly portray the way dogs are ...... :-(

To be honest, it clearly wasn't the Daily Mail, but I'm glad to know what DM *really* stands for, thank you :)

As a dog lover, I have to agree with Izzy - my dog is a great dog, but I won't permit an idiot owner of another less socialized dog to endanger her and children (especially in this part of the world) have little experience with dogs and can invite serious consequences unknowingly. Call the police.
