Just got a text from my Mum... saying "hoping it doesn't get worse" (they live at the beach).... but they know the reality is that its going to get 10 times worse, so I am thinking its very bad now and everyone there tonight is in for the fight of their lives. Best wishes to all with family and loved ones in FNQ!! Hate to say it but think you might be right. Fingers crossed for your Mum, keep us updated Shelly if you hear from her. I am supposed to be studying but just find myself glued to these live streams watching it happen. :( Will do. I have been and will be glued to my laptop until I know its over and their safe!

I can't get on to any live streams anymore except the Innesfail one. They've all crashed it seems. And even the on site tv news crews are now leaving their coverage and going for cover. Things must be getting bad. But... the Pink Towel has it's own facebook page now and is being nominated as the new Australian Flag! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=685200179#!/pages/Pink-Towel/143482055712616 Trust the Aussies to find some humour in yet another disaster!

I'm still getting the odd update from friends/family on facebook. Its starting to get very windy and scary there right now (Cairns). The darkness doesn't help. So sad that the live coverage from 7 News is not working...grrrrr!

Aw crud, all the live streams are now down except for Cairns one. OMG! Some nitwit has turned up to wave and dance around in front of the camera! I thought it was her DH being funny, but no, she says she's never seen him before! I went onto the CNN Live site and while there were a couple of stories on there, did not see anything about my online friend. Now there's just the news. And if it's anything like the floods, it won't be as uptodate as the social media. Sending vibes for lots of strength to the families caught up there and their absent loved ones. THe other one is a suburban scene. I t look like they've tied a red rag to a tree out the front to help with context. ...Arohadxb: Alas, they are expecting to even lose mobile coverage as towers will be knocked out and networks overloaded, but yes, good idea to keep it charged. I did hear someone say that sometimes when calls don't work, sms does. Don't know if that's true though. ... I think it's worth mentioning though that, like the floods a few weeks ago, the next few days will be an utter debacle for emergency services and it's best to stay off the phones. No calls in or out, no texts etc unless calling for emergency help. I think that as hard as it will be, for the first two or three days we're just going to have to try to assume "no news is good news". The telecommunications system just will not cope with the load put on it.

She's just told us she's going to be interviewed for CNN! Will be shown on CNN Live later this evening. PMSL As if she hasn't got enough to think about. I think they must be adjusting the camera for a walk around perhaps? Or perhaps just making it more secure for when things get really nasty. She has 3 chickens that she has secured in makeshift cages by cable tying 2 laundry baskets together. Sharing the bathroom with them, her dogs and family. What a story!

Spoke to my Mum and Dad further down the QLD coast this morning and they said it was s unny clear day, no wind but stinking hot. They have the TV on continuously watching updates but were finding it hard to belive that this is going on only several hours drive above them. STINKING hot here on the Sunshine Coast ( a good 1500km south of the eye), very still and unbearably humid. It's not *as hot* as a summer day in Dubai but I swear it an awful lot more uncomfortable. It's very weird outside...not normal for this time of year and eerie. Even here, this far south there's a stillness and quiet I just feel uncomfortable with. I'm glued to the TV watching all of the webcams people have left running in their homes. The weather people are gutted because this IS going to happen and they can't give people any hope that it may not hit. Strength and prayers to all in FNQ. It's going to be a very, very long night. Lots of love to those of you in Dubai worrying about friends and family. xxx
