Hi, my visitor would like to buy a 'name' necklace to take home. You know the necklaces that have the person's name written in gold and 1 end of the necklace connects to 1 side of the name and the other end of the necklace connected to the other side of the name. Gee I hope this makes sense. Should we visit the Diamond and Gold Park and get one made there??? Have never been there before and thought it might be a bit of a tourist thing to do at the same time! Any shop recommendations?

His number is 06-052-2231. he just did a silver one for my friend, and its beautiful. Delicate and really well done. he charged 75 aed. he is very sweet and his prices are great, definately worth the trip to Sharjah. he does gold ones as well and the wait time is 3 days. :)

Hi all I always use Passion Jewellers in Gold & Diamond Park a guy called Hemant. For the last 6 months I have been using them as I had very bad experience at another jeweller's. So after much deliberation I went into Passion Jewellers and I have not had any problems, their finishing on the jewelry is supberb. I believe they own 5 store in GDP by different names. Their prices are very fair, and I have recommened many of my friends and they all have been very happy. It is very hard to find trustworthy jeweller's but Hemant has been great and they can absolutley do anything. Hope this helps. :):)

Sorry Pepps - didn't mean to confuse you. I had no idea that jewellers would rent or loan their jewellery. I thought it was simply for sale. I have gone to them to buy or upgrade my jewellery but have never entertained requesting them or any other professional jeweller to borrow their jewellery.

Hi! Was just reading the threads. Felt I could contribute for what it's worth. Have been going to these diamond wholesalers for the past few years in the Gold Souk (Bond Street Jewellers). From what I understand they are wholesalers and supply diamonds to many retail shops all over the UAE. You guys might want to give them a try. They are quite well priced and excellent customer sevice. Try calling Ahmed, I believe he's the director and a very nice chap, on 050 513 7481.

I used to go to Cara until theybcharged ridiculous prices and treated me like I was nothing. I g to Mamiya at the G&D park now. Ask for Suneil or Tony, they'll see you a very good price and excellent service. I always get the tear shaped design too, very attractive.

Hi, I ordered three from Cara, in silver and was very disappointed with the size when I picked them up. Decided I would not go there again. Subsequently ordered one from Monili for my sister, silver again, checked size and chain type with the guy before agreeing on price. Delighted with it, far superior. So check out Monili, they do gold and they get my vote! HTH Are they in the GDP? Yes

My sis in law had 2 silver arabic name necklaces done for friends back home at Christmas and they charged her 100dhs each in Cara. They always do a lovely job there. Have had a few bits and pieces from them. BTW you can have a gold necklace made from around 500dhs - the guy in Cara told me you can basically have it as heavy/expensive as you like. DH got me one years ago before I came to live here for 500dhs and my name has 7 english letters in it. edited by johjoh on 01/01/2011

It will depend on the finished weight of it. As a guide, one that I have is about 3cm long and quite thick. It's for a 5 letter, 2 syllable name and weighs 4g. Check the price of silver and be sure to allow some for the work. The chain will be extra. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 01/01/2011

Another question on the same topic...having never purchased any jewellery in Dubai before - should we haggle a little on price? Anyone remember approximately how much a necklace like this in Silver might cost - just really rough guide?

Yes it makes sense and you can get them made at the Gold and Diamond Park. I have had them made at Cara Jewellers but I think most of the jewellers can organise them for you. You write down the name and then they take it away and convert to Arabic and give you a draft copy on paper. Think it only takes a couple of days - you can get in gold or silver. HTH.

I had one made at Damas in G&D Park. I think any Damas jeweller will be able to make one.
