Personally for myself, I searched for a long time and consulted with different people? My dentist recommends Marvis Anise Mint - https://barbercompany.com/uk/zubnaja-pasta-marvis-anise-mint-85-ml/ ...

Personally I feel that the Weleda toothpaste brand (British) for children is brilliant as it is fluoride free. I always carry my stock as I've no idea where this is stocked in Dubai.

Don't worry Alemania, all my children have gone through phases of hating teeth brushing, they do get over it :) I gave mine an adult toothbrush to play with yesterday, now she seems preoccupied while I do the job :))

When starting teeth brushing I normally do mine at the same time as my baby with lots of smiling to show how fun it is. Every dentist I've been too has told me children need help brushing their teeth until the age of eight. My oldest child is seven, we brush her teeth with me starting and her finishing. You're lucky! Teeth brushing is our drama of the day...She starts screaming on the way to the bathroom already. I tried story telling, giving her the second brush to practice herself. Sometimes it helps, but then if she doesn't scream she just keeps her mouth shut or bites the brush, so I cannot do my job properly anyway :))

I bought Dentinox from Boots, it also comes with a baby brush. It's with Fluoride though. When my daughter was 1 y.o. our doctor in Germany even prescribed her Fluoride tablets, so I guess a toothpaste with Fluoride is not a bad idea if you just use a pear size and smash it into the brush, so that your child doesn't swallow the whole piece. But don't expect him to learn spitting the toothpaste too soon. My daughter is 21 months now and I've been brushing her teeth since a year now, she still cannot spit out.

Why fluoride free? [b'>I was always told to use adult tootpaste from day 1. [/b'>This is from the British Dental Association advice page: Good dental health from an early age will set your child up for life. As soon as the teeth start to come through, you should start brushing them. You can buy special brushes for babies and make sure you use fluoride toothpaste. For children up to the age of 3 you should use a smear of toothpaste containing no less than 1000 ppm fluoride, for 3-6 year olds a pea sized blob of 1350-1500ppm fluoride toothpaste and for the 7s and over, 1350ppm fluoride toothpaste or above. Apart from the fluoride content I'd have thought adult toothpastes would be too strongly flavoured for children... most kids' toothpastes are fruit flavours rather than mint...

Having fluoride in the toothpaste is very important, especially for baby teeth. I believe there is no fluoride in the water here, so a child's fluoride consumption is much lower than say in the UK where fluoride is added to the water. Children' toothpaste is much lower in fluoride as it is designed with the strong possibility children will swallow when brushing, so they would have to swallow a massive amount for them to get fluoride poisoning. So buy a well known brand such as Aquafresh (which we use for our two kids). They do different stages called 'Milk Teeth' for 0-3 yrs, 'Little Teeth' 4-6yrs and 'Big Teeth' for 7yrs upwards. I assuming this is due to the amount of fluoride present, (higher as the child gets older).

thanks everybody. Flydiver i am really dreading teaching him spitting as my baby is a very keen observant and very naughty. so i am sure spitting everywhere would be there for a while :) then comes potty training! ah the joys! Scribs i read the same article and was looking to start the same but after coming across alot of articles and reports today, flouride free toothpaste is recommended for babies under 2 as their digestive system is still sensitive. from 2 onwards same toothpaste which family is using is fine but only a smear not a big glob as per the advertisements!

Sorry (I don't mean this to sound offensive) but this post actually made me laugh out loud. Not at you.... At me. As I remember hunting for non fluoride toothpaste like a crazy woman when our little angel sprouted some teeth, and the other day I found him eating the toothpaste straight from the tube (as he loves it) and to be honest, it didn't worry me that much as I've learned not to sweat the small stuff or I'd go insane. I made my own, which was easy and worked fine. You can google recipes, there are thousands on the net. Or Burts bees, which I think you can get in the organic supermarket works well. As for teaching them to brush, just brush along with them. They'll chew the brush in the start, but they'll get it. I used to brush daddy's teeth then mine and then our LOs and we made a game of it. He learned to spit soooo fast. Then stopping them from spitting everywhere is the problem. but that passes too. We use the Bidet as we never use it for the purpose of a bidet, so our LO uses it as his own little sink. Good luck :)

We bought ours at the Organic Foods & Cafe in SZR. It's called Dr Sharp and it is natural + fluoride free. I think the formula has been designed so that the baby/tot can swallow, as DS always thinks it is yummy (strawberry flavour) and will just not spit :)
