Thank you for your comments. It's reassuring to hear that DD isn't the only one not talking at her age! I am trying to encourage her to use her words, we had great fun with "sock" this morning lol! :)

Hi everyone, İ have 24 months old twins one is talking properly and a lot but the other one hardly says a meaningful word. She makes some sounds like the beginning of some words like dad or mum. She can sing some melodies. Has anyone had an experience with twins or similar problems and is there a good therapist you can advise to us in addition to Sarah in City Hospital we read in the thread? Also, we were referred to go to Child Learning & Enrichment Centre in Dubai. Does anyone have an opinion/previous experience on this place? Ozi

I was worried about my son not speaking at about 21 months as well and took him to see a speech therapist - Sarah at the City Hospital (She was brilliant!) She assessed him and said nothing to worry about, the key is that he was trying to communicate and interacting. When she pointed and spoke about the picture on the wall he looked and then replied (in his 'aah eha ah ah" sounds) and pointed to something else. I think its more the interaction than the words themselves. Now at 26 months he wont stop talking. If you are still worried you have nothing to loose by taking her to see someone. The reassurance is the best thing. edited by sarahlouise on 12/02/2012

So true Greenish,DIL said she had to "pick her battles" when insisting on him using his words. His big sister had the most adjustment as she loved to mother him.

Hi all... Just after a bit of advice... I have 4 children, and the first 3 were speaking in full & complex sentences by their second birthday. My youngest (girl) is now 21 months, and is not saying more than 3-4 actual words... I am not concerned about her hearing - it is clear that she hears very well. She also understands perfectly, and can follow instructions etc. But when it comes to speaking, she just kind of goes "aah eha ah ah" sounds!! Lots of pointing etc too. [b'>She is a clever girl[/b'> otherwise, and copies her siblings, takes her own clothes off, indicates when her nappy needs changing etc. She can get frustrated when we can't understand her - this doesn't happen often, and I am wondering if I should stop interpreting for her - then she may feel she has to speak to make herself understood?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :) You're spot on there...she IS a clever girl. Learning to talk is fun, but it's also hard work and frustrating. She's so clever she has worked out how to communicate with you all without actually doing the 'work'. :D Yep...stop interpreting for her, ask her to use her words and it will come. Pick your time of day for language 'lessons' though. There's no point in having her end up in a screaming fit of rage because she's also tired or hungry. ;) Good luck!

I honestly wouldn't worry just yet. My GS was the same, had an older sibling who would constantly fetch and carry for him. Why talk when you just have to point and everyone runs around after you ! DIL resorted to insisting he must "use his words" when he wanted something .It was a battle and yes much frustartion on his part. He is now 2 and begining to string words together into a sentance. All the best. edited by Nomad on 10/02/2012

I just wanted to add - we've only been in Dubai since August, and previously in the UK, I would always be able to contact my Health Visitor if I had any concerns regarding the children... please advise if there is any such thing out here!
