My seven and half months old baby fell off the bed this morning. Mistake is all mine. I left him for a wee second and had gone to the washroom. He flipped over the cushions and fell on his back. The bed must be around 1.5 ft height.

He cried for a minute soon after. I picked up and consoled him and cried with him. After a while he resumed his usual thing. He is trying to crawl and looks at me while I call his name. No vomiting. Had his feed normally. He's fine now. He has no visible bruises and i touched the back of his head to see if it hurts or something; no, he seems to be fine. But I'm still worried.

Has anyone experienced this? Pls share your experiences. I did call the doctor's clinic and I'm waiting for a call back from doctor. However I feel that doc is just going to tell me to watch him and bring him over if he vomits or becomes dull. I so so want my baby to be okay.

Will never leave my baby on my bed again when I'm not around.

Thank you so much ladies for the reassuring comments; my baby is fine now and the doc advised me against taking him to hospital after I explained to him that the baby is normal. He has been is usual self and its of 24 hours after the fall. Cannot thank my stars enough. Will be by very careful now onwards (I'm telling this to myself. My new mantra)

you have already got wonderful medical advice from Bats4891. every baby falls now and the despite us being so cautious. my ds fell down first time from the couch when he was 3 month old. he was a active baby right from the starting but took that moment to take a flip first time in his life :( he stopped crying after 2 min and started cooing but i cried for 2 hrs after that and my husband was scared for me rather then him :) now he is 9 months old and super active and i can't prevent all his falls despite being carefull. he is cruising around right now and even falls when he is sitting and playing besides me. so don't feel bad.its tough but you get used to it and will not cry every time they fell.

Honestly, almost everyone I know (myself included) has had their baby fall off something. I think it's natures way of reminding us to keep on our toes! 1.5 feet is not actually very high. Babies are very bouncy and barring the symptoms listed below, there's unlikely to be a problem. Try not to beat yourself up. It's the first in a loooong line of mistakes you're going to make as a mum, and learning is all about doing something about them from here on in - not berating yourself! edited by Kooky on 31/01/2013

My DD fell off bed too also when she was 7 months old. I didn't bring her to the doc. She actually cried for a sec then stopped and only started crying back again when she saw me crying. :D She's 2 1/2 now. Alhamdulillah, she is ok. DH told me that babies are tough. :D

Little zuzu, I'm sure you're feeling rotten. I know the feeling, My little one managed to somehow get out of the cot at 6 months! I still don't know how she fell! I heard her cry and found her on the floor! Took her to the hospital n she was fine! The doctor said to look out for signs of disorientation and vomiting. From your post I think your baby is ok, just continue keeping an eye on her. You will surely notice if there are any changes. Don't be so hard on yourself. Accidents are bound to happen with babies. I'm just thankful that my baby was ok..and we got a better secured cot the very next day! ;)

my LO almost rolled off the couch at 4 months old, my husband caught her just in time else she would have been flat face down on our marble floor! I can imagine the stress you're under, but I'm glad to hear the baby sounds fine, babies are a lot tougher than we think! if it'll make you feel better take her to paediatrician tomorrow

oh little_zuzu, I know you are feeling awful right now but truly, this is something that happens to most mums at some time, one week you know your baby can't do something and its safe to leave them somewhere, the next, ooops something happens. I am sure your baby will be ok and has already forgotten about it, don't beat yourself up. it won't be long before he is crawling and walking and absolutely covered in bruises. i slipped over on the tiles yesterday and have a new resoect for my toddler, he does this on almost a daily basis and doesn't even cry. You know what to do, watch him carefully for any signs of a concussion, but most likely he didn't actually land on his head and he'll be fine. and if you need to make yourself feel better, have a look at this thread...http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=155395 none of have eyes in the back of our heads

You shouldn't worry if the baby is not vomiting. Always check the eyes after a fall, if you see the eye balls moving up or the baby doesn't seem to focus that's when you should panic. Also try to keep the child up for at least 4 hours after the fall so as to prevent any coma state (but thats for a very bad fall and esp if the head has a bump or something). And don't feel bad at all, all babies fall off the beds at some point in time, mine did when she was 3 months - Imagine. She cried hysterically for 5 minutes then was fine and started playing/babbling right after that but i still took her to the ER and they checked the vitals and said she was ok. You can get him checked there is no harm in that. edited by Bats4891 on 30/01/2013
