Hello - I am trying to get organised and having a look at some second had cots that are for sale in good condition. Also, Mamas and Papas have a 'Pebble Cot' which is slightly smaller than regular sizes - does this really matter as to the size, they say it will still last up to a 2 year old baby - is that the normal time you move to a bed?
Also, is it necessary to buy a brand new mattress, I've seen some second had ones that are in good condition (Aerosleep), just wondering if you should only buy new ones?

Many thanks - there is so much baby stuff aroundwhen you go to look for the first time it's overwhelming! Any tips are welcome in judging what to purchase....

Do your research on using secondhand mattresses. It is NOT simply a question of how comfortable you are with the concept of used items. There have been causal links made with use of secondhand mattresses to SIDS and many advise not sharing mattresses even between siblings. But you should make your own informed decision based on reputable information. The research is only a Google away.

Another vote for the vista here, dd is 20 months and I'm still using it every day. Huge shopping basket is great and when they're tiny the bassinet mattress is safe for overnight sleeping so we used that instead of a Moses basket. I'm planning to do the same, also purchased the bassinet stand.

Thanks Lentil, must take a look! Anyone seen any sales or know of the best place to go for a good buggy - one with combined pram, buggy and able to take car seat. From what I see the Uppa Baby Vista and Bugaboo is perhaps the best.....there are so many models it's hard to know! Hi Daquiri, I'm due in Aug and just bought the Uppababy Vista. The vista won over bugaboo in all aspects, it's available at just kidding, sz rd. I suggest you go have a look at it. I can't wait to use it. Xx

We bought ours from Pottery Barn kids on a sale. The crib converts to a toddler bed with rails so we can keep her from falling off the bed. Pottery Barn mattress has two sides one for baby and one for toddler. The toddler side is a little softer. My DD is 18 months old and has slept very well on both sides. Good Luck! Just wanted to add that it depends on what you are comfortable with for buying used. My DD has had diapers that leaked so I would not have been comfortable buying a used mattress. I do have a mattress pad below the sheet however I know not everyone does. edited by RubyRed on 02/06/2014
