Hello - I'm just wondering what people recommend to use for baby products. I would have just bought all the Johnson's products (baby bath, lotion, shampoo etc) but I see some people don't like them for the ingredients in them - Mustela brand seems to be very popular but a lot more expensive. Has anyone any recommendations? Also for each nappy change, is sudocream still the one that people use or not? I think the Mustela Vitamin Barrier cream is supposed to be good also to help prevent nappy rash. Many thanks :-)

I've been following Daza's advice and using coconut oil (from the Organic Store) to clean baby during nappy changes. Has worked well so far!

We used coconut oil on our baby, and even it was too harsh for his skin. We've had to switch to Bioderma (similar to CV or Cetaphil) from the pharmacy. I have a few Honest brand products gifted to me from someone in the US, and he hasn't reacted to those. We tried alot of 'hypoallergenic' 'fragrance free' 'dermatologist-tested' baby products and they're all the same ... just labels, doesn't mean anything!

I've sworn off J&J products after my hairdressing tutor stated that john sons baby shampoo is actually very effective at lightly cleansing unwanted hair colour! so much be quite harsh to fade that! I'd seen someone suggest coconut oil on here before so planned to use that and water where possible and have ordered some water wipes off amazon for when need something a big substantial. If you know anyone coming from the UK they're often on offer in boots.

I stopped using J&J shampoo after my DS developed an itching scalp problem and DS was 4 years old then. Our pediatrician said that J&J products cause allergies and rashes in many children and suggested to change the brand. The problem vanished as soon as I changed the brand - I think it was Mustela at that time. When he was a little baby I also used natural oils (olive in our case) and bathed him in a bath with herbal extracts (recommended by pediatrician obviously) from time to time. These stuff do wonders, especially if baby skin was developing rashes. But those we got from home country and haven't seen in Dubai yet.

Thanks all, this is helpful. I might steer clear of J&J - the plain water is probably best and as you say add some coconut oil/mustella etc. Thanks for the tips, appreciate them all :-)

Unless they have a properly diagnosed skin problem babies don't need anything other than cleaning with water and using oil for dryness and nappy area as needed. I use organic virgin coconut oil although others will work fine to. By loading your baby's skin up with products you are likely to actually create issues. The skin can't work properly under a layer of all that product and can become irritated so you use more product which makes it worse.....it's a vicious circle. The skin is an amazing complex organ, don't load it up with chemicals. For my babies I use nothing but water to wash them in the bath. No soap, no lotion, no shampoo. I do use a shower filter (H20 Pure Blue) as the water here is pretty harsh. After bath, coconut oil spayed on the nappy area. If they have had any newborn dryness I've done an oil massage at this time. If any little rashes have developed (normally from getting a bit of sand in the nappy!) I'll use sudocrem but only if needed, not as a regular thing. For nappy changes I use damp cotton pads and coconut oil for cleaning. I keep pump cannisters of it in the bathrooms and a little spray bottle in the nappy bag. Spray or pump it on the damp cotton pad, it cleans easily and leaves the nappy area protected and soft. Don't use baby wipes, they are awful things and a big cause of nappy area irritation. Apart from all the other benefits of not using so many products on your baby it has the added bonus of meaning your baby actually smells like your baby, not what J&J (or whoever else) thinks your baby should smell like. Best smell ever :) edited by Daza on 15/09/2014

Hi Daquiri, Hope you are getting on well with the bump and glad that your Doppler scan was normal ( read your post) I would say avoid J&J. My baby developed horrible rashes after using their products my pediatrician suggested cetaphil no-irritant cleanser and moisturizer. It has worked wonders. The rashes were completely gone by day 3, the cleanser does what cleansers are supposed to do without stripping the skin as it's very mild , can be used on hair and body with or without water. The moisturizer is thick and gives a protective layer to baby skin. For nappy rash I use mustela or just plain coconut oil. edited by CG9 on 14/09/2014

I use Burts Bees Baby Bee, absolutely love it and love the smell. I don't think it's sold here, but you can order online and delivery to the UAE is free on Bath and Unwind. I also really like California Baby, some great natural products.
