Ladies,
I have a breast pump that I bought for my first DS, used it about 5 times. Now with my second DS, I used the spare parts and only used the pump twice as DS would not take anything other then the breast.
So I'm thinking of selling it on...are breast pump ok to use second hand though?

I actually have a perfect condition Medela Swing I am now ready to sell on if anyone's interested? It was so comfortable to use and is now back safely in its box again, waiting for a good home!

With the madela pumps you can buy all the parts seperate so why not sell it. I often see them advertised on dubizzle. Baby shop sells all the madela parts. Nutty, mines the Avent Isis, which I think you can buy spare parts to, too. Will have a look, may just stick it on Dubizzle. I was thinking about it and had I known how little i was going to use my pump, I would have happliy saved some AED and bought a second hand one. And like I say, mine has hardly been used and has been in it's box most of the time...so it would be a great buy for someone, i think.

You might find this article helpful, as it explains why certain pumps are designated single-user: http://www.breastfeedingonline.com/pumps.shtml

It depends. Hospital grade pumps are fine second-hand, as each user buys a separate "kit." All other pumps are single-user only. There's also the possibility that it may wear out (as most do, eventually) soon after resale. yeah, my second-hand one cracked after a few months of use, so I had to ditch it since I couldn't guarantee it was sterile (well, it basically couldn't be!)... BUT... buyer beware and all that.

KB, I bought a second-hand one, scrubbed all 'contact' parts to within an inch of their lives, ran it all through the steriliser and it was brilliant for the almost 12 months I used it. It's still in perfect working order apart from one of the seals which are available as spare parts. There's a big market out there for them. I missed a few before snapping mine up. :)

Hi KB, I think first time mums are a bit icky about this sort of thing but if it's cleaned and sterilised I really don't see the issue. In fact a couple of years ago I gave my old one to a mutual friend of ours!
