C-section ? - somewhat urgent!

My due date has just passed and my Dr is suggesting a c-section based on the size and positioning of the baby. The problem I'm having is that the hospital where my Dr delivers in AD does not allow anyone in the operating room with you. Obviously I'd rather my husband be able to be there for the birth of his first child not to mention the fact that it would make it more comfortable for me to have him there. I'm a little nervous to do it on my own.

Would you ladies try to find a new Dr this late in the game (American Hospital, City Hospital in Dubai) or just deal with it and do it in AD?

The OP should try moxibustion! I'm definitely not an alternative therapy type girl, but when my twins were breech, the doctor (Elsa, at City) suggested I try it. It basically involves holding a heated stick against your little toe and it randomly works. It made my twins so active and wiggly. There are actually a bunch of ways to turn babies - try the advice at www.spinningbabies.com or the advice here -- http://www.suite101.com/content/turning-a-breech-baby-a7421 And trust me, naturally is a much, much, much better way to have a baby than a c-section!!!

Thanks everyone - you've put my mind at ease! I feel more than comfortable with my Dr and the staff so I'll go into my appointment tomorrow with knowing that I'm doing what's best for the baby and I and that we are in good hands. I really appreciate all of your kind words and for keeping me in good spirits! That's exactly the best frame of mind to be in - however you give birth, the main thing is that you are happy with your choice and that both you and your baby are in good health at the end of it. I love giving birth - really, I do - but a breech birth would have me looking at my options and a transverse... well, even I probably wouldn't attempt it.

I had a c section at Welcare 2 weeks back and cannot recommend them enough. I was with Dr Janaki, but all other docs are as brilliant. Worth giving them a call. They are the same management as City.

I had a c- section at American Hospital last Monday and I can't recommend them enough the delivery team were excellent they made a very scary emergency situation very comfortable for me, and my husband was with me throughout all the staff even took photographs. Also for the record this size predicting thing is BS I was told having huge baby , they said 9-10lb at the scan , I was quite surprised when my tiny bundle was handed to me, he was 6lb 8 oz. Also the cost is 22 , OOO dhs for the c- section with 4 nights in hospital. Good luck with the delivery Hi Dollymud, which dr did you use to do your c section at AH? Would you recommend? Thanks!

OP, I had planned a totally narural birth, doula, read Ina May all the rest, but sometimes the best ladi plans don't come about. I did not want to be induced for my own reasons. I had a caesarean at the Corniche in AD. The caesarean procedure was fine and I felt like I was in capable hands. The anesthetist wouldn't let my husband in for spinal block, but he was there for whole labour, they placed baby on my chest as soon as extracted for as long as we wanted and my husband was able to announce the *** etc. At this late stage, you would have to go and register at the Corniche, and suffer the extreme frustration of that place though - so I don't know what is more important for you. Your tolerance levels might be better than mine, but it nearly did my head in dealing with the admin there. Also afterwards was noisy and busy because of a shared room with someone and their 8 children, maids, mobile phones etc. Can't you just go hard and demand that your hubby be with you? All the very best, and at the end of the day, your health and teh baby's health is the most important.

Read Ina May Gaskin - Guide to Childbirth! They shudnt be telling you to do a c-section unless you hit 42 weeks or so. [color=#000000'>And your body isnt going to produce a baby that cant come out through you.[/color'> What nonsense! Many hospitals will not let you go over 41 weeks and as for the body won't produce a baby statement arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this were true there would be a zero mortality rate during child birth and no medical intervention would ever be needed. Women would pop babies out like shelling peas! If her qualified doc has a advised a C section then that is his proffessional opinion based on what he sees in front of him and his experience not to be questioned by a poster on a forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks ladies for all of your suggestions! I have another appointment with my current Dr tomorrow so we shall see. I'm not sure why it has been assumed that my Dr only wanted to do a c-section because I was at 40 weeks - sorry if I gave that impression. At 39weeks 2 days the baby was still in a transverse position. She then flipped but has since moved again. Because of her size the Dr doesn't know if she will get into a good birth position that will allow for a natural labor. He insisted on waiting until mid to late this week to make a decision as his preference was to let me go naturally. He didn't think inducing was the BEST option as he thought there was a good chance I would end up with a c-section anyways but again, wouldn't make any decisions until my next appointment. Since a c-section was never talked about until recently, I didn't know that no one was allowed into the OR, hence my last minute concern. edited by Chgo2AD on 01/02/2011 Many hospitals will not take you now and the cost will be high, many will not allow your DH in as well.

Read Ina May Gaskin - Guide to Childbirth! They shudnt be telling you to do a c-section unless you hit 42 weeks or so. And your body isnt going to produce a baby that cant come out through you. It depends on whether u want a natural birth or a c-section. If you want a natural one, walk a lot, have s#x, eat spicy stuff, etc And if you want a c-section, well like the other posters said, it isnt that long a time, and i highly doubt if they will give the baby directly in your hands or your Dh's as soon as the baby is born.. they dont just stick thier hands in and take the baby out, its some sort of procedure.. U will have to wait atleast 5 minutes. And u arent going to know a thing anyways. I hope you have a natural birth and soon :) And

Well, if you're already past your due date, then it's litterally going to be a matter of days before you go into natural labour anyway. Could you not discuss induction if you really didn't want to wait for labour to start naturally? Besides, what exactly is your Dr saying? Giving birth to a 4kg baby isn't impossible by any stretch of the imagination and if bubs is head down, then you're all ready to go. If bubs is breach, yeah, maybe a c-section, but otherwise, follow your gut feel. edited by Hello.Again.Kitty on 01/02/2011

HI Chgo2AD: Im not sure if you can or cannot go to a new hospital at the 11th hour. ..but all i want to say is that the whole process of them starting surgery and the baby being out takes only 20-40 minutes!! So mostly you will see your baby in 15-20 minutes of you getting into OR. Its not all that bad to be by yourself..the nurses can be very warm and helpful. Just want to give you the courage that you will be OK Just close your eyes, sing a song, pray and think about all the good times ahead!!...however if you manage to find yourself another hospital to deliver your baby thats great! Good Luck! edited by gogi on 01/02/2011
