My DD is on cows milk from 6mths. She refused 3 kinds of formulas and was happy with cows milk so cows milk it is. She is now 10mths with no problem whatsoever.

I keep reading cows milk is fine for cooking so I used it once my son was 6 months and have no issues what so ever. I wouldnt give him cows milk to drink though. I think what they mean is that formula or breastmilk should always be the main source of milk. Yes, exactly. It is not deemed to be harmful once children are ready for complementary foods (on average 6 months), but is not nutritionally appropriate as the main source of food for a child under one (which is breastmilk or an appropriate formula).

We put out 3yr old on cows milk just before he was 2yrs mainly because I had read that it wasn't suitable. However I was friends with several mums in the UK that did it much earlier and it didn't do their children any harm.

Cow milk & dairy is fine in food & cereals at 6+ months. I introduced cow milk in food & cereals at 6.5 months when we started weaning. DS was fine & although he was suffering from reflux it didnt upset his tummy. He was eating from what we'r eating & I always use yoghurt, milk, cream & cheese in my cooking & it didnt give him any gases or tummy problems.

for cooking with, it is fine - it's just that it's not brilliant as their primary milk source. I used cows milk for things like porridge from when the children were just starting to be weaned... couldn't somehow bring myself to cook with my own milk!

Introduce it slowly and it should be fine. Mine had cows milk once they were six months and it didn't do them any harm.

There is so much conflicting info regarding this issue. If you are using only small amounts in your cooking, is should be fine, especially as your baby is over 6mths. Just monitor your baby for any reactions (excessive gas, nappy rash, etc) and if this occurs, perhaps switch to organic soy milk.
