Hi ladies,

I'm 13 weeks pregnant with twins. I have good medical insurance but am totally confused about where I should deliver, which doctor to use...

Any advice or experiences would be gratefully received. If I'm honest it's all rather overwhelming.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Ginnee... The post partum depression is the worst one... I never knew about the post partum depression part till recently and now I understand why I had been crying and always fighting with my hubby... I am just waiting to see is gonna happen with me!! will I be able to manage or will it be a break down down situation.. luckily with god's grace i will have my moms with me. i am at my 31st week and have slowed down already... i wonder how big my tumy is gonna grow!!!

mine are due early dec and already have a 4yr old. we have no 'help', one helpful mum at my child's school recommended that I definitely get 2 maids! not an option for me, , but we will have both mother's coming out to help so im sure we will find our way! we all learn to cope-we have to!

Thanks Ginnee ... as you told it will take time for everyone to learn how to manage and get into the routine... I absoloutely advocate to get someone to help you get the babies into a routine as soon as you can. This saved my sanity!! I'm sure there are experts here for that. I'm not sure on-demand attachment parenting is the way to go with multiples!! But that's just from my personal experience.

I guess everyone handles things differently. It depends on the individual. I was under the impression when I was pregnant that I would cope just fine with twins on my own!! How wrong I was. The sleep deprivation was the worst for me. I was fearful I might make a mistake with medication or drop a baby I was so tired. I guess it's for the individual to assess on their own. I'm a depression sufferer also, so Im sure that added to things. I didn't have hubby with me, he was here, I was back home. I just had my elderley Grandmother helping me. God bless her! edited by Ginnee on 30/07/2013

'You will be needing a minimum of one person to help you e.g. maid PLUS your mother'....... This isn't always the case. If you get yourself into a routine early on then no help other than your husbands should be needed. My first set of twins born at 32 weeks never slept through until they were 2yrs old when our second set, their twin siblings then came along. We all cope differently but we have never had a maid, nanny, or any grand parents to help out at all and though yes....very tired over the years .....we had four under 3 yrs of age growing up here and no help. Our choice but completely possible.

God bless you all - future twin mummies. I'm a twin mum, mine are now almost 5. born at 35 weeks. The first 3 months is harrowing. You will be needing a minimum of one person to be helping you. eg: A maid PLUS your mother. I put my girls into a routine at 3 months. I learnt how to bottle feed them (I couldn't breast feed) at the same time - google it, it's useful. The important thing is to try to get them to feed together and sleep at the same time. This will allow you to rest sometimes!! This wasn't the case for me for the first 3 months. I was so tired. Good luck to all with your imminent births :) edited by Ginnee on 30/07/2013

Hi Congrats, I am also expecting twins, non identical boys in September. I am under Dr Ibrahim at City who is fabulous and also deals with high risk pregnancies. We were told to register at Latifa too but didn't, as Mammabear says, City has a great NICU now taking them from 24 weeks. Hope it all goes well for everyone, I still haven't got my head around having twins, I have a 2 year old girl so am not going to get out of the house for quite some time!

Hi Congrats! I'm too expecting twin boys this early Sept. using Dr Anne Phillips @ City. Although this Dr Elsa sounds fab! The hospital are good & very clean. I got specific maternity cover (additional) with BUPA. Everything costs more with twins so its best u protect yourself. Good luck. Don't forget to start enquiring about baby visas, passport etc. I'm going to use Medi Express, haven't come across a good reason to recommend them yet but you can try your luck.

Hi Kirsto, glad you are feeling better, the first few months are tough!! We didn't get any additional cover as we were lucky to have it all covered, with regards to Latifa, we went down to register and they said you couldn't just register like the old days but had to take the package and deliver in the hospital to get priority to the nicu, so we just left it as knew we wanted to deliver in City. Tbh the nicu in City now is just as good as Latifa if not better, they recently did it up and expanded it and I think take babies at 23 weeks or there abouts. Hope this helps! I had my twins 3 months ago. My OB was Dr Oksuz who works at Healthbay Polyclinic and delivers out of American Hospital. She specialises in high risk pregnancies and has delivered heaps of twins here and in Germany. I had complications and was on bedrest for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. My babies came at 35 + 5 days and one of them spent a week in NICU. I can't speak more highly of Dr Oksuz and the care I received from her. Also, Dr Sridhar the neonatologist and the NICU nurses at AHD were outstanding. One thing to note is AHD doesn't accept preemie babies less than 28 weeks. They send them to Latifa. Also AHD give free car seats to parents who deliver twins. We'd already bought ours but it was a lovely gesture.

Thank you ladies for your replies. We did a tour of city yesterday and were very impressed I'm now on the waiting list to see dr elsa. November! So I will see somebody else first once I get back from the UK. I'm feeling a lot better now. It has been a rough few months with morning sickness but I feel like I'm getting there! So very nervous about the prospect of twins and the nicu cover which I'm trying to find out if I've got on my insurance. Did any of you take out additional insurance on top of your maternity coverage? Is it worth paying 5000 to register at Latifa just in case... Sorry, lots of questions x

I had my twins in City Hospital with Dr Elsa, she specializes in high risk births and is fantastic, my boys came at 31+4 and it was a very difficult birth so having her made all the difference. They were in the Nicu for 3 weeks and the staff and hospital were fantastic, highly recommend. Mb x
