Is it possible to get pregnant just 2 days before periods are due? I was supposed to get my period on the 9th but nothing so far and I have always had regular periods. In a state of panic and Google search is confusing me further. Any advice ladies?

It is possible to get pg just before period is due if you have a delayed ovulation. This happened to me with dd1 - I conceived on cd28 as a course of antibiotics had delayed ovulation by 2 whole weeks. This totally messed up my pregnancy 'dates' which are of course based on the LMP - last menstrual period. In hindsight I wish I had lied and made up a date 2 weeks later as I ended up being *induced* on my edd!

I always thought... one's luteal phase which is between Ov and your period had to be of a minimum time frame (10-12 days???) to support a pregnancy, and that regardless of when you ovulate your luteal phase is always mostly the same length of time, give or take a day. 'Normally', yes...but significantly shorter, while uncommon, does happen as in my case and for my sister. My sister has four children on her teeny, short luteal phase. :D

With all due respect, unless someone provides me with some scientific evidence that women with normal cycles can ovulate 2 days before their period, I will not believe it...:) Lol...there is no such thing as "normal". Diagnosed health conditions aside, every healthy woman's cycle is "normal" for her. The statistics state averages and by definition, averages take into account the extreme ends of the scale...a basic bell curve blah blah blah. ;) The luteal phase commonly ranges anywhere from 12-16 days, with the height of the bell curve at 14 days. So I guess if you want to say "most common" is "normal", then 14 days is 'normal'. The shorter a woman's luteal phase is (<10 days is not uncommon) then it's potentially more difficult to achieve pregnancy. More difficult, not impossible. I know for a scientific fact (lol Anon) that I ovulate at around day 23-24...a fact because I've been through the blood tests a few times. :) I have three healthy children without any other assistance except those bloods to know when timing is best. :) ETA - oh...and she could have ovulated up to 2 days before *the event* the egg could still be viable. ;) edited by Green-ish on 13/09/2011

Is it possible to get pregnant just 2 days before periods are due? I really hope not, as I rely on the rythym method as my form of birth control... It absolutely is possible Anon as experienced by all of the women below...if you want to be sure the rhythm method is safe for you, you can do blood tests to determine when you ovulate. Of course, if it's worked for you thus far, you're probably safe (ish) :)

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Fortunately I got my period this afternoon (late but its here) after much anguish. I have always had regular periods and usually a few days before the previous date. My reading over the last few days has given me new knowledge that it is really possible to get pregnant in whats considered "safe time" as well so will be careful in the future. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Is it possible to get pregnant just 2 days before periods are due?... Yes. I have always had a clockwork 28 day cycle, but I ovulate at about day 24. I found this out during extensive blood-work when we were having trouble conceiving my first child. All of the stats on what's "normal" are based on averages...there are many, many women who fall at extreme ends of the scale. :)

In Qatar, there is one extremely sensitive pregnancy test available, which measures very low HCG levels. I'm afraid I don't have the name of it, but if normally "Early" tests measure 25 mIU, then there are tests that recognise from 40 mIU HCG, I found a test recognising 20 mIU (!!) (Landmark petrol station pharmacy) I checked different tests sensitivity comparison but don't recognise the name of the test I found http://www.babyhopes.com/pregnancy-test-sensitivity-comparison.html

this may be possible, I got pregnant in the last week of my cycle... I've always been very "regular" with periods. Old wives tell, that stressful times / no sleep can postpone the ovulation. Maybe it's true, I went through an extremely stressful time, my husband was travelling, he got back from a trip... one thing led to another, I was so late in my cycle that I didn't even pay attention... and voi la - pregnant! :)

Oh yes, this is how i got pregnant the first time and I do also have regular periods! however, if u did get pregnant two days before ur period was due, the home pregnancy test would only turn positive after 14 days from the day of conception.

Very much possible. Time several days 'before' and 'after' period are USUALLY safe, but it is not a rule.

I would say it is not possible, unless your cycles are highly irregular. Actually my periods were v regular but my cycles were totally off the chart.. ovulation dates dont fall exactly on the 14th day.. So, op, yes, its quite possible. Buy urself a home pregnancy test and verify :) Good luck!! :)

I fell pregnant 3 days before my period was due, so yes it is possible. My cycle was ALWAYS ontime so it was so easy for me to work out date of him being concieved etc!

well, if you've missed you period, unless you know that you've only Done It once in the last 28 days, then you could well be pg, but from earlier. In any case, they count a pg from the first day of your last period.

Ovulation [b'>can[/b'> occur anytime in your cycle, but is [b'>usually[/b'> about ten days prior to the start of your period. In the Middle East, anything is possible though!;)
