My DH and I are hoping to get away for a 2 week holiday during August but we are completely stumped as to where to go. We would rather go East rather than West, but we are finding our options are rather limited, what with malaria risks and me being unable to get certain vacanations. We would like to go somewhere with reasonably nice weather, and I have been informed that both South Africa and Australia/NZ will be cold and wet during this time (If I've misinformed, please let me know) We would rather have an active/busy holiday than sitting on a beach somewhere, although I think having a few days relaxing at the end would be good. We have already visited Malaysia, Mauritius and Tanzania/Zanzibar so they are out. It's just very frustrating as there are loads of places I would love to go before the baby comes, but can't, and we want to have a really good holiday with just the two of us, before our little bundle of joy arrives. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

How about Sri Lanka combined with a few days in the Maldives at the end for R&R? One thing I would say now that I have 2 small ones is make the most of it, holidays will be a little different once you have a baby!!! For our pre No1 baby hols we went to the Seychelles, and for pre No 2, Sri Lanka (with No1, so not quite as relaxing!!!) Enjoy and good luck with all of it!

How about Morocco? Marakesh was amazing, heard Fez is the same. I would give Casablanca a miss if I did it again.

DH took me to Southern Germany for our "babymoon" (last great holiday before the kids!). We went to Munich, took the train to Salzburg and Stuttgart (Mercedes museum for DH) on day trips, then rented a car, drove to Freiburg in the Black Forest, then drove to Garmisch at the Germany-Austria border, then drove to a friend's B&B in the Austrian Alps, spent a few days there (Swarovski world headquarters in Innsbruck) before driving back to Munich. The flight from Dubai to Munich was less than 6 hrs.

salsB - we loved Mauritius! We went in 2003 (so some time ago!) as a big family holiday and stayed in self catering villas beside Flic en Flac beach. We hired cars and just went touring around the island every other day. The highlight of the trip was driving to the East coast of the Island and taking a boat to Ile aux Cerfs. This is a private island owned by One and Only Resorts but you could get access to it for a fee. My DH and I went one day, after leaving the rest of the family on the beach, and we absolutely loved it. It was some time ago, so don't know if non residents can still get access to it, but I would highly recommend it if you are not staying at the One and Only Resort. Have fun! Neeps, thanks, really looking forward to it now.
