Yes, we´ve been quite!! I hope you are all doing well!! I found out I was having a boy already at week 12 :D he showed us his bits on our very first scan! but I guess most of you might be finding out about now. Up until today I have been busy dealing with the different little milestones but since a few days ago I am growing increasingly anxious to find out that most women I speak to in Dubai seem to have had a c-section or/and an iduced birth... :( I am seeing my doctor on Wednesday and find out her views about this. For some reason I assumed all births were to be natural unless otherwise needed but of course! here comes the fact that c-sections and inductions are really more intersting to private hospitals in terms of convenience and profit. I am so scared to be bullyed into a c-section and/or and iduction!!! I am hoping for a natural drugs free birth. Just as my mum and grandmother had before me. Do you know of pro-natural birth doctors in dubai? Have you spoken about your options with your doctors already? What kind of birth are you going for? Hugs to all.

Hi Leah, Im sure I am having a boy, even though he keeps hiding his willy for scans lol. Must be a shy boy (im not even entertaining the fact it could be a girl. Its not lol) I actually went to Baby Bazaar this weekend, was ok, a few good things to be had but mostly people selling their used clothes at unreasonable prices, and new stuff like maternity and nursing dresses at inflated prices (IMO) You feeling ok? Nose swollen much? lol

Wow...we sure are a quiet bunch! :) Hope everyone is doing great...anyone find out their baby's gender yet? I'm due for my 20-week scan soon and hoping the doc can tell us the gender. Super curious about it :) I've heard all kinds of old wive's tales about the gender so I can't wait to find out. Funniest one I've heard is if your nose swells during pregnancy it means you are having a girl :D Also, anyone ever been to the Baby Bazaar they hold at Times Square?

Hello ladies, So is anyone trying out Hypnobirthing or attending classes or such here? Anyone with any experience or any interesting hypnobirthing stories from friends? I've just started with the Hypnobirthing book by Marie F Mongan and find it an interesting concept. Although I have to say, I'm unsure of how effective the technique would be in my case, given I'm generally a panicker:) Just wanted to know if anyone else is looking at hypnobirthing as an option or even any other birthing techniques. edited by leahgibbs527 on 09/02/2014

Hi everyone! First of all congratulations to all of you pregnant! I am Due around July 20th, at the moment I am 11 weeks pregnant with twins! This is my first pregnancy and a new world is opening up for me. In the first weeks of the pregnancy I was hit hard by all day """"morning"""" sickness and constant nausea and fatigue, but thanks to some good anti nausea meds I am getting better and try to get healthier too. Isn`t it funny all the food aversions and cravings? Anyway, we just had our scan again on the 11 week mark and both of the babies are doing really well...and growing as they should. It is amazing to hear those heartbeats. We are also looking like most of you for a good OB/hospital who can take us under their wing and will take me all the way through. Just hard to pick! I also had contact with Dr. George from Genesis in healthcare city and he is specialized in complicated pregnancies and does even do deliveries. Soon we will see him, cause will do the NT scan at his clinic. I would love to meet up with you ladies! Check your dates again with a Dr - I am 13 weeks and due 7 August so you are either 15 weeks or due later than you think - Oh, unless you have booked a c section for a few weeks early than you EDD I cant recommend Dr Geaorge enough, he is just wonderful and kind. I didnt deliver with him but he is just a lovely man - I see him at Genesis clinic for my scans Good luck with twins!!! edited by mumofmoo on 02/02/2014 Congrats on the twins Cootje! Hope you feel better soon. So far I've had only food aversions (no cravings at all), especially proteins and dairy. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever be able to look at a juicy burger the same way again Also, I second mumofmoo on getting your dates checked. I'm 17 weeks along and my EDD is July 11. Yes something is wrong with your dates! I am due July 20th too and I am in my 17th week. i'd suggest you to use the site babycentre.com as it gives you quite an accurate idea of your due date along with weekly information on you and your baby's growth....best of luck! edited by realist_sz on 05/02/2014

Dear all, Sooooo good to see that many replies!! I have been busy these days since my last post and since I have made some progress... I finally decided to go for City Hospital. My first appointment was Dr. Purmina Deb. Most of mums in the forum rave about Dr. Britt, Elsa and some other City docs I cannot remember; so much so, that there were no appointments left! Dr. Purnima Deb was my only available appointment that week and although she has mixed reviews here I decided to check it out for myself. Her proffessional cv is actually very good as she has been a senior at Latifa with hundreds of babies under her belt; she was also the one to be called in when things turn ugly. She was very nice to me listen to all my many questions and reassured me where needed. Result: a happy me signing up for the antenatal package with her. She straigh forward sent me for all blood tests and to arranged for morphology scan in week 20 (next month) can´t wait!! (no... it is not what you think. I must confess and come clean. As a project manager I cannot stand uncertainty; this excitement is due to the fact that I must make sure it is all going fine with the development of project-baby rather first-time mum´s happiness. I can´t help myself... :D ) No, I have made no shopping for baby so far. And I mean NO shopping. I bought some pregnant clothes for myself from Madrid (I´m Spanish) over Christmas, but just a few and only beause I started looking silly with undone pants... but (Damm!!!) I did not buy bras and/or undies which today, a month later, are feeling very tight and in need of replacement. I must go and check out this "destination maternity" in Dubai mall. to realist_sz: Newbie like me!! :D Welcome! City Hospital DOES do morphology scan as it is also included in the antenatal package. I have heard however that their machines are not so good and neither it is the technitian... this may be the reason why Dr. Else redirected you elsewhere? who knows! Although I have it included in the package with city and I have an appointment for it, I am still having it done at FMC with Dr. Mirza. Why? because I do not trust City for this after checking for myself their machines (also the scan is not done by your doctor) and also because I fully trust Dr. Mirza who also carried out my CVS. Their machines are top state of the art and Dr. Mirza is highly qualified and profesional. The price at Fetal Medicine Centre is 1200 EAD (ooouuuuch!!) for morphology scan. 250 EAD more if you want to see it 3D-4D (which I think is rather creepy but hey!). 800 EAD for follow up morphology if you like further down your pregnancy. Dear leahgibbs527, szabme, I am afraid I cannot share any experience on the pregnancy symptoms front. I am having one of those no-symptoms-whatsoever kind of pregnancies. In fact, my problem sometimes is that I feel so no-pregnant that I find it hard to get close to the fact that I am. It may sound silly but, in a way, sometimes I feel like I would like to feel "more pregnant" so that perhaps I can bond with the baby? I don´t know. Most of the time I forget that I am. I remember again when I want a cold beer or a cigarette... yes it was very hard but I quit them both. Also, I sometimes wonder whether everything is going fine! :S Dear tmbb11: I though that water births were not available in uae!! please do keep us posted if you find out more! Dear CurlyOB, I hope you are feeling better by now!!! Dear JBads; Thank you soooo much for sharing your experience at Latifa!! Sorry to hear you felt rather lonely on your experience I guess. I can imagine what you mean by it resulting on a hit or miss. And yes, perhaps this is the one experience you do not want gambles with... My husband wants to be there the whole process... I am not sure I want him there yet (he doesn´t know this) but I can see what you mean by having to wait outside. I once went to emergency and he could not wait with me there either!!! :( Hugs and kisses. edited by ExpatMy on 30/01/2014

hello ladies, I am closing in on week 20 and Dr. Elsa has asked me to schedule a Morphology scan (also known as detailed organ scan). City Hospital itself doesnt do this and they referred me to the Fetal clinic in healthcare city which has no female doctors. Also, this scan is not convered by any insurance unfortunately. Has anyone done this yet or can advice on it? I know a few places do it Medic for AED490, Aster for AED690 and Femiclinic for AED1000 but being that the doctor who does this should be experienced rathar than just someone who looks for the gender, i wanted advice on any particular place that any of you could reccomend.

Hi ladies, How is everyone holding up? Anyone still got nausea/sickness? I do :( I'm on meds for them and coping much better, although I worry about having to take them for a long time. Hey szabme,The DSF sale is going on and they've got a lot of stuff on sale at most of the baby & maternity shops I've been to. Great time to stock up on the maternity clothes! Destination Maternity has some really nice stuff for the moms. Mamas & Papas in Dubai Mall has great baby stuff too. And Babyshop seems to have the cheapest baby stuff and furniture, although I'm not too sure about the quality cos I have no experience buying stuff from there...yet :)

Hi girls, congratulations to everyone!! I'm due at the end of July so I am also very delighted about it especially about Ramadan haha just like explo :-D How are you all? I'm in my 2nd trimester already but I also have problems with sleeping. I am also a first time mom so it's very exciting. Anyone started shopping yet? Do you girls know which shop is kind of providing good quality, acceptable design for a normal price when it comes to accessories and furniture? Because this seems to be a bit difficult here :-P Also, if anyone would be interested in a meet up or whatsoever I would be more than happy to participate :-) edited by szabme on 29/01/2014

I did the Al Zahra tour and was very impressed (see the Al Zahra thread). I'm registered to deliver there mid July. Hope they're able to offer water births (rather than just birth pools for labour) by then!

Hi Ladies, Im not sure when I am due but it will be either end of July or early August and seeing as nobody in the August group talks, I thought I would come here! I have a 9 month old little lady already and this will be our second. I think it is a boy but of course it is just mothers instinct and not a fact as it is too soon for me to know I am going to do the tour of Zahra hospital in the next few weeks so hoping that it is wonderful so I fdont have to go to City again as it is not as close as it was for me with the 1st baby as I have moved. Hope you are all feeling well MOM x

Hi there, I'm a first timer too (pregnancy and on expatwoman) and I'm due on July 31. I'm loving the timing, straight after Eid, if EDD is anything to go by that is. I'm thinking the reduced hours over Ramadan should help me bank those hours of sleep too! I'm with Dr Jozsa, whom I think is amazing, and as yet undecided between City Hospital and Al Zahra but won't be deciding for a few months anyway.

Hello all, Congratulations. I also have a July due date, first week. This will be my third, having two DDs already, aged 4 and 2. I am going with Dr Elsa at City this time, having had my first DD in Medcare and second in Al Wasl (now Latifa). I very much like Dr Elsa, she has a lovely manner and is very thorough even though she is so busy. Have a rotten tummy bug at the moment so feeling really sorry for myself :( Good luck all, hope everyone is feeling good. Curly

Hello! Im new to pregnancy and new to this forum! Just came from the doctor with a due date towards the end of July..very excited! I have been checking out doctors and reviews for a few months and i have been to Dr.Luthra at Medcare and Dr. Elsa at City Hospital. Both are fabulous but i have chosen city for my delivery mainly because Dr. Elsa spends the time with you and explains what's going on and talks you through issues if you are nervous which Dr. Luthra doesnt have time for. However, both are the best in Dubai based on many, many reviews. Hope it help and congratulations to all!

Hi Everyone Congratulations to you all! I'm pregnant with my second baby, due end of July. My son is 17 months old and this was a bit of a surprise so I'm happy but nervous about how I'll cope with two (when there are some days I still struggle with one!!!). ExpatMy, I delivered my son at Latifa and it was not a great experience for me. Having different doctors at each appointment didn't bother me until my last appointment at 38 weeks when my doctor (who I had never met before that day) decided to do a membrane sweep with out telling me or asking my permission. This caused me to go into labour that night and I did not have a good experience with the doctor on duty or the midwife assigned to me. I had decided on a natural birth and rather than support me they kept questioning why I didn't want pain relief. The midwife sat there doing paperwork practically ignoring me for most of my labour and when my contractions slowed down her advice to me was to lay on my back (which is the worst thing you can do if things aren't moving along as they should). The doctor made me feel like I was to blame for my contractions slowing down and as it's a teaching hospital I had a bunch of students gawking at me in all my glory! Also one other thing I should mention is that they don't let your husband in the room with you during the early stages of labour, so he will be kept outside until you are 10cm dilated (which in my case took hours), and you will be in a room with 5 other women also in labour. I stayed there one night and left the next day as I couldn't wait to get out of there!!! This is just my experience though and there are many women out there who have had good experiences there. Staff at local hospitals and clinics can be hit & miss as far as how helpful they are so it's you and your luck. My advice to you would be look for a great doctor that you get along with and is on the same wavelength as you and stick with City. The whole process will be much easier for you, especially if you're new to Dubai! Hope this helps!

Dear all, This is my first post. :) I am too due in July 2014, the 14th is actually EDD. I am new to Dubai and also new to having babies! At 38 this is my first. Needless to say I am finding the whole thing and process far away from home rather daunting. I have had prenatal checks done so far at FMC with dr. Mirza. I am very happy with him and I am grateful for his professional outlook. I have read some mixed reviews in this forum about his manner but I have to say that none of that was my case. For others looking to book with him I would say that I have seen him in three occassions; dating, NT scan, and he also did my CVS and I would recommend him anytime. It is true he has a sense of humour some may not get but hey! what matters here is that he knows what he is doing. And he does. He could even tell us the gender of our baby (we asked him) as early as during the NT scan! CVS later confirmed he was right. In my case, I actually liked his humour and had fun during visits. He was most kind and proffessional during CVS which in my case was painful and I almost fainted in the bed... :S (My risk for DownS was very low but I still wanted a diagnosis rather than statistics and I thought best not to wait until week 17 for an amnio.) I am now looking to register at a hospital.... :S!!!!! what a nightmare decision this is being. I am torn between Latifa and City hospital. We do have an insurance and the prices are quite similar so money issue does not help make up my mind. I think I prefer Latifa only because the two times I have visited City for information I did not have a very good feeling; people seemed too customer oriented. When I went to Latifa whoever, everyone was a lot warmer. My local clinic is Al Barsha so I would have to attend there until after week 20 when I would be transfered to Latifah. This what I am not so happy about. Do any of you have experience in Al Barsha clinic? I don´t mind so much not to have a room to myself, after all, being a new mum I may actually appreciate company of others with experience at that time. I wonder ladies, which hospitals are you registered/registering to?? why?? Perhaps you could help make up my mind as I am only basing decision on gut feelings at present.... :S Your input is very much appreciated!!!! edited by ExpatMy on 15/01/2014

Hello ladies! First timer here...both to the the forum & motherhood! Really excited & curious as well about the whole journey ahead :) Quick question though...anyone having trouble sleeping? I've been sleepless all of my 3rd month apart from the few hours I do manage to doze off at night. Sleep is disturbed & erratic involving lots of tossing and turning, and I'm exhausted through the day, especially in office. It's getting a bit better now; I seem to sleep till sometime in the early am, say around 2am or 3am after which I'm back to tossing & turning. Phew! Read some forms of insomnia is actually a pregnancy thing, just wanted to if any of you ladies are going through the same thing? If so, any helpful suggestions? :)

Hey ladies, I'm Due in July. Any first time mums on here? :-) Hi, I'm also a first time mum, due July 5th. Feeling much better the past few weeks and starting to get excited. I'm a yoga teacher so I've been doing lots of pre-natal yoga which has been really helping with morning sickness/tiredness. It's great to finally be telling family/ friends the good news!

Hey ladies. My due date for my second baby is July 7. My son is now 11 months old. So I can imagine, I'll have my hands full in summer. However, due to a c section, I'll probably deliver end of June. Glad to see so many other second, third and fourth timers here! Was wondering if any if you have had 2 c sections, and what the recovery is like the second time around, with a heavy toddler to play with.

Hi Ladies, Congratulations! I too have just found out that I'm due my third at the end of July. I already have two boys- 4yrs and 2yrs. Really reassuring to see others feeling the same tiredness and sickness I have been feeling. ? I only moved to Dubai in November and had my other two back in the UK so the whole process here is all a bit daunting. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm due with my 4th around 11th July. Morning sickness is just starting to ease up a bit, thank god. I'm thinking about Al Zahara hospital - i really like what I've read about it so far, but will reserve judgement til I go have a look. To be honest I'm just concentrating on getting through the first trimester - I have a history of miscarriages, so don't want to get too ahead of myself.

Hi Ladies :) zaika854, my OB is Dr Rosalie Sant who works out of Primavera Medical Clinic at Healthcare City. She operates out of City, American and Welcare. I had my first with her at American as at the time City was quite understaffed and undergoing some big changes. A friend recently delivered with Dr Sant at City as she currently believes thats the best of the 3. I'll be delivering wherever she recommends as totally trust her judgement. Eajla - wow your 4th!! Would also recommend Dr Sant for you too if you are looking, she specialises in high risk pregnancies and was great with my first CS. Hope everyone is feeling well. Feeling quite nauseous still, can't wait for that to stop!
