Thanks for all the advice ladies , we are still having a few issues but i suppose i just need to stick with it. I now have a new problem of her not settling unless she is sucking on something, be it my finger or the empty bottle!!!! i wanted to try and get away with not using a dummy but it seems to be the only thing that settles her

Our now 2 1/2 DS never had big problems with burping after breastfeeding. However, it would take a bit longer some times (especially at night when you need your repair sleep so that you can survive work next morning)... until our friend gave us a valuable tip a doctor gave her: when you put the baby to burp, place his stomach on your shoulder. We used to place his head instead and hold him upright! Once we changed the position, burping became an automatic thing :) . Hope it helps.

My DD is also a monkey for not bringing up wind at night! We try for approx 10 mins after feed and if nothing we put her down. In this 10 minutes if she hasnt brought any up in 5 minutes we lie her down and keep an eye on her. As soon as she oppens her eyes we lift her up and she literally burps straight away. It sometimes helps to move them around a bit and change their positions a lot when winding them. Good Luck.

Yes i am getting myself stressed out about this , but she seems perfectly content all day and then come night time its like she has a build up of wind/gas and then we have a screaming match on our hands. BB - not sure if you are going through the same thing which i was a week or two ago!?!? Have a read through this thread, there might be a few tips for you! It turned out that my DD has a touch of reflux so we have her on Infant Gaviscon! Our nights turned into days and the screaming and crying escalated! She is much calmer now, winds better and drinks better... http://www.expatwoman.com/abudhabi/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=131679&Page=1

I have read that if your baby does not wind in roughly 5-10 mins then to not carry on , but there has to be something there surely.

I used to get so stressed over the burping issue as well, then I read that if they don't burp everytime it's perfectly ok and you don't need to carry on burping for any longer than a couple of minutes.

If I boob feed then my Lo also around 2 weeks is very hard to burp after a feed, however if I express and bottle feed then he absolutely needs burping as there is a lot more air getting in, the best way I found is to literally just sit him up right and voila, I do at least a couple of burps during the bottle feed not just one at the end. Best way to discribe it is like those dolls that you tip up and there eyes open/close haha. Good luck :)

Sorry forgot to mention she is formula fed, However no reflux at all. after speaking with the midwife she has advised to let her settle on the shoulder for at least 10-15 mins after her feed and then try and wind her once the milk has settled. will see how i get on

Is he breastfeeding? Breastfed babies tend to take in less air while feeding (some do, though, especially if mum has a fast milk-ejection reflex or oversupply, or if baby is a fast feeder), and so not all need to burp. As Helen says, if there's no discomfort or large amounts of spitting up as a result - not a problem!

As long as your DS doesn't have any discomfort by not bringing any wind, it should be ok.
