My DD has always been used to certain types of Hipp Organic jars and Ella's Kitchen pouches. I had gotten her used to them for the sole purpose of traveling as when we travel back home I am not lucky enough to be able to take the food I cook for her due to the long journey. Its worked great! We are now in Oz and I have tried to get her used to some of the baby jars/pouches here for our return trip, but she HATES them all! I don't blame her really, they are absolutely VILE! Have tried all the available brands here and she's having none of it!
What the heck do I do for our journey back to Dubai? If we choose the quickest route back that will still see us traveling for approx 24hrs. Now I'm kicking myself I didn't think to pack some food for our return flight!!

Any advice, please?

Also check Big W and Woolworths - I just can't remember where I saw it! Otherwise, I just googled Ella's Kitchen Australia and found this http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=99521 :) Best of luck with your search and have a lovely holiday!

Thanks cakepop, I'm up north, Cairns. Toys r Us don't have baby food here (was in there today) but we do have Chemist Warehouse and I reckon there has to be a high chance they might stock it. Am going to check there this week. Also going to look in the Organic Stores around the place. IF I can get some Ella's Kitchen pouches it'll just be a huge load off my mind so incase DD rejects the plane meal (if its yuck) then I have back up stuff for her. Fingers crossed! ;) edited by shellly on 10/10/2011

Also, toys r us carries it in the states so may be worth a call there as it's easier to find.

They have Ellas organics in Sydney. I've found it at the organics shop in woolhara and randomly at a farmers market in rouse hill. I don't know where you are located if that helps any.

Yep, DD only has 4 teeth too and i'm amazed at what she actually chews on and swallows, but she does prefer me (well, I prefer it, LOL) to cut it up in pieces. We are flying Emirates out of Brisbane and fortunately we are close with the majority of the staff there so extra meals are no issue. A friend is also probably able to liase with someone in catering to check on DD's meal ;) Those infant seats you mention, kiwispiers, sound BRILLIANT!!! I've never seen them on an Emirates flight but will certainly find out. That would make my life sooooo much easier onboard as DD does not like to sit still. twin_butterfly, OMG I will check Chemist Warehouse this week!!! Thanks!!!

I just got back from Oz and I am absolutely certain I saw Ella's Kitchen either at Coles or at a pharmacy - might have been the Chemist Warehouse.

DS still only has 4 teeth but he manages thigh meat, cooked carrots etc, pieces of papaya. Pretty much if it can be mashed with a fork it can be mashed with gums. There can be a bit of gagging and even vomiting as they transition though, so if she doesn't normally have something whole, the flight might not be the best time to experiment ;) You should have no problems getting the extra meal for yourself, on Qatar Airways I just told them I was giving the low sodium to DS and they didn't seem remotely surprised at me asking for a regular meal for me, I think its standard that they carry extra. Also, if you are by chance flying Qatar Airways, I just discovered that they have onboard these infant seats with shoulder straps that strap on to a seat (like a car seat). They are only supposed to give them out if you have paid for a seat for your child but if (as in my case) the seat next to you is empty, and you ask nicely, they can be persuaded. Made a major difference for me flying solo with DS as he sat nicely and even slept in the seat whereas he was diabolical on my lap.

We're slowly getting there with the whole foods, Green-ish. She is far more adventurous than I am and to be honest I think I've been holding her back in the food department. DH will hand her whole foods, I freak out, but DD handles it with ease... mostly, not all the time. So I think I'll do what Kiwispiers suggested and order a low sodium meal for her, plus i'll have some fruit and snacks with me as well. Told a friend of mine what I plan to do and she said to leave it to her to secure me an additional meal for myself. ;) Thanks so much everyone for all your help!!! edited by shellly on 09/10/2011 :D I hear you on the freaking out! By baby number three I had relaxed somewhat and her second solid meal ever was a whole chicken drumstick. Closely supervised of course and nasty pin bone pulled out, but she LOVED it and gummed at it for a good 30 minutes. :) Hope the flight goes well...she'll love sharing Mummy's food. :D xxx

The children's meal for DS was FAB on Emirates. I think it was better than the adult meal! Although he couldn't have some of the snacks that he offered as he was only 1. Granted he did have his own seat so I was able to order him a child's meal. I had asked about an infant meal and was told....heehee he could only have a childs meal as he had a child seat!! But in the end I'm glad. Try transitioning her to more whole foods and see how you go. How many teeth does she have? Even if only a couple she should be able to have more whole foods as their gums are pretty hard.

How much longer before you fly shellly? Can you start her on more 'whole' foods rather than mashed? Mine was on big pieces from 6 months, so at nearly 1yr it's certainly safe for her. That will then allow you to just pack a sandwich or ten, take some healthy snacks or feed her from your tray on the plane.

I just flew qatar airways with my one year old, I ordered a low sodium meal (for myself as they wouldn't let me order a meal for him) and it was fine, lovely salmon, potato and greens for dinner although breakfast was pretty much omelet and peas, but he coped and I did bring my own steamed broccoli, carrots and fresh fruit. (I then asked for a spare regular meal for myself so I could give all the low sodium one to him). Also you don't have to wait for them to serve it with everyone else, if you ask they can bring it earlier or save it until later so it better fits her normal dinner time. Live yoghurt is actually ok at room temperature for quite a while, and can even be frozen and thawed, although some of the fruity ones change slightly texture-wise after being frozen.

Thanks ;) Yeah our last long haul flight was fine as she was happy with just fruits. I think I need to try and find some Hipp baby food and failing that keep hoping and persevering with what I have on offer here.

Hi Shellly, Depending on the age of your DD why not try her with bananna or wheatabix (get some milk on the flight?) or yoghurt? She'll be 1yr old when we travel back. Yeah, I have thought about that kind of food, but we'll be traveling over her lunch and dinner time and she's used to having nice big meals of protein, carbs and veges etc. Yoghurt would be good but how to keep it cold and we also have connecting flights and long transits (ughhhh). Have even thought of sharing my plane meal with her, but thats the type of food I'd trust the least. ah right ok, i was thinking maybe your DD was a bit younger. Yes that is some dilema now! Sorry cant think of 1yr old food - im still in 7 month old grub atm.

Thanks sweets! I haven't seen that brand of pouch you described... so far only the pouch Rafferty's something or other and she rejected that. Will have a good look for the pouch you mention. Hmmm might try and do some research about Hipp in Oz, if its anywhere here it'd have to be Sydney. Will try and hopefully find some here (haven't had a good look yet at other stores). I'm so desperate for it if it was in Sydney I'd even have it posted to here for the little princess. Good grief, the things these bubs make us stress over!!!

Have you tried those? Can you not get Hipp Organic there? I'm sure they have Hipp in Sydney....maybe try some Organic stores? x
