Having a serious panic attack now....24 weeks pregnant and still haven't selected a doctor.
Went to Medcare the other day and was quite put off by the one hour wait and the awful smells in the waiting room and the receptionists constantly arguing with each other...

Have now decided on the American Hospital but no idea of which doctor to go to....need some recommendations please.

Hi NadiaA....I think the American hospital is really good. I moved out here a month ago and I'm now 31 weeks pregnant with baby no1. I saw Dr Brathwaite for my first appointment two weeks ago and just had one again today and I find her very approachable and professional. Dr George does my ultrasounds and he is such a lovely man...very gentle and informative. I popped over to the labour wards on the off chance that I could look around and they were very helpful. The rooms looked very clean and spacious and all the staff were very helpful! I live in the Lakes and don't find it too much of a hassle getting over and back. Labour in rush hour traffic may be a different story. Good luck! Hi freckle, are you having a natural birth or c section? I'm looking to change to AH and just wondering which dr for my 3rd c section, does dr george deliver too? Is there any specific reason you have chosen dr braithwaite over dr george? Thanks! edited by Simpsons on 27/03/2011

My doctor has birthing rights to Medcare but refuses to use them as doctor has had several worries about lack of midwives but abundance of nurses.

Freckle - Do you feel like the AH is too far away from us and is this stressing you out? If you don't mind, I would love to have a chat with you about this....my email is nadiakhan-ayoub at hotmail dot com and would really appreciate if you could email me and then I can send you my number or you can send yours. Am glad to hear positive reinforcement re Dr. Braithwaite...makes a huge difference when you have real time experiences to go by. Any recommendations for the epidural ladies?

I have an appointment with Dr. Braithwaite in another two weeks and they know when I'm due so I guess its not too late to register. I have not heard anything good or bad about the doctor but am hoping that the hospital will be better than the only other one I have seen out here. First baby came out rather smooth so hoping that all will go well this time as well....also hoping to do everything else at the meadows clinic and just go for the last few weekly check-ups to the AH. Have no idea if people have good/bad experiences with their epidurals there....anyone know anything about that? Hubby's just too busy travelling for work and wants me to just decide on where I want to give birth and choose a doc.....my hormones are not finding this very lovey dovey to say the least!

If you want to go somewhere close to home, you can have all your minor check-up appointments at the Meadows clinic then just use the American for your major check-ups and birth. A friend of mine did this and was very happy with both the ob/gyn at Meadows (I think Dr Munira?) and Dr Braithwaite at the American.

Im due in less than a week, moved to Dubai at 6 months pregnant so had to find a hospital quick... have you had an appointment with AH? whe i phoned they only had an appt 6 weeks away.... i go to Welcare, i see Dr Marcus Pace and he is brilliant, you can ask him anything and you'll get an honest answer. i've never had to wait more than 10 mins over my appt time (this was because he was doing a delivery!) and most of the nurses are all friendly.

something else to consider is whether you are covered by insurance, giving birth is an expensive business!

I know that we should ideally pick something close by but we're in the Meadows to begin with so nothing is really next door and my visit to Medcare just stressed me out so much.....other than that, everything seems to be far off. Very upset at this point....

American seems very good! I've had friends who have delivered there and said it was brilliant. My personal opinion is stay away from Medcare. Trust your gut instinct!

Choose a doctor / hospital closer to your home.... it really helps.
