Hi. I am now 41 weeks pregnant and set to be induced on Tuesday morning. I am being encouraged to be induced not for medical reasons but purely out of convenience. I know that it is not abnormal to go two weeks past your due date.

I am really hesitant to be induced. It is not what I want yet I am fed up with being pregnant. I keep on hearing horrible induction stories where people are in labor for extended periods of time and then end up with a c-section. Does anyone have any positive induction stories? I might not show up for my scheduled induction on Tuesday.

Thank you for all your responses. I really appreciate them. I am supposed to report to the maternity ward tomorrow morning at 7 am for the induction. Well, I have made up my mind and am not going. I will still go to the hospital tomorrow but I will just see a doctor instead. I am now 41 weeks and I have decided that I will wait it out until 42 weeks. It is not abnormal to go two weeks past your due date and I am a bit annoyed that doctors here would say that I need to be induced. I am not being irresponsible. I am going to the hospital every 48 hours for a CTG and my baby is not in distress! Although I am annoyed to still be pregnant since my other three children were all born before their due dates, I am not in such a rush to be induced tomorrow morning... edited by AnonDubai on 24/02/2014

many of my friends have had positive stories- depends if your body is ready. i was induced at 38+5 weeks- my palcenta had started to stop working so they couldnt wait for it to happening naturally. from the time of being induced to actually given birth was 33 hours! was relatively boring tbh as nothing really happened for the first 24 hours. in the end DS was born by emergency forceps- he was a big boy and as he was coming out the cord got wrapped around his neck..im not sure if he was to do with the induction but i trusted and still do trust my doctor that it was the right thing to do. if there is nothing wrong with you or baby and its just out of convienence to your doctor then i would see if it can happen naturally and then if not by 42 weeks- induction will be only way... good luck xx

OK so I'm going back nearly 30 years and I was in the UK, but my eldest DD was induced at 42 weeks. That happened first thing in the morning and she didn't arrive until around 30 hours later. Yes it was long and tiring, but I had an epidural and was allowed to do without a c-section as she wasn't at all stressed. What made it worse was when the paed checked her over he reckoned she was more like a 43 to 44 week baby. Please try and stick to what you want unless either of you are in any danger.

ANON - its up to you, I wouldnt be induced if I was fine and healthy and so was my baby. I went into labout and after 3 days they broke my waters and gave me the drug to "induce me" and help me along. This resulted in 12 hours of agony and almost had to have a c section because my baby just was not ready to be forced out. Thankfully, I found the strength to get her out before they tried cutting her out of me. There are good stories and bad stories but for me, pregnancy is not always 40 weeks from the date the Dr decides, if your baby was ready, he would be coming out alone. Perhaps they misdated you and you are currently 38 weeks (you just dont know) Please make YOUR choice and do what YOU would like and best of luck x

I was induced with my second. They started the induction at 9am, about 1.30pm I started to have strong contractions and he was born at 2pm. I had no pain relief and it was quite quick really. <em>edited by Alismum on 23/02/2014</em>

My waters went but nothing else happened so I was induced. I was really worried but it was all fine. 7 hour labour, no pain relief. I know the waters breaking might have helped, but the contractions really weren't coming! Keeping walking up and down stairs and bouncing on a birthing ball meanwhile!! But don't worry too much, an induction doesn't necessarily mean anything different, it all just depends, like with every birth.

Hi, I hope you don;t get induced, it's always best for the baby to come out when he/she is ready! Your body knows when the time is right, if there's no medical reason then avoid it as much as you can. I was supposed to be induced, I went in 10 days before my due date for a checkup and they felt DDs heartrate was too low so the doc calmly told me I had to get induced that night! I was so upset because I really didnt want to be induced, so I went home to pack my bag did the exercises they say help brings on labour and made soooo many prayers that I dont have to be induced somehow. We check in at night, I was all prepped and ready, the doc came in to induce me and she checked that I had already started getting contractions for going to into labour! It was such a miracle I couldnt believe it! I was sooooo happy (until the real pains started lol!). They did break my waters though which is like a minor way to induce, because DDs heartrate was too low so they wanted to hurry it up. I had a short labour, in the sense that at midnight I started contractions, and 7 hours later DD was born. On the other hand, my sister was induced and from the time they induced her till the time her son was born it was almost 24 hours, so I do think getting induced does prolong the contractions time. She had a long pushing stage too. I really hope you dont have to get induced and your LO gets to come out when he/she is ready :) <em>edited by sourskittleashnut on 23/02/2014</em>

I had an induction due to high blood pressure at 40 weeks. Had a very long labor which was over 40 hours as kept stopping and starting. Was fairly painless as I had an epidural which was fab. But totally exhausting as so long. I wouldn't be induced again unless had to for medical reasons.

My first son was an induction. It was super easy. Bring a lot of reading material and things to do! I pretty much read my book from 8am-2pm when I started feeling the contractions. I wasn't keen on an epidural but they said you feel the contractions more if you are induced so I had one. Then I read the paper until 6pm and then had the baby. We all went to sleep and it was done.
