Spouse name required in passport?

Hi, my passport is still in my maiden name and my spouse's name is NOT endorsed on my passport (my name is endorsed on my DH's passport). Our marriage certificate is attested and all as I am on husband sponsorship. Is it required to have my husband's name endorsed on my passport for getting baby's birth certificate? There's not much time we have as I am almost 37 weeks now, and I want to make sure we have all the paerwork ready. Any pointers will be helpful. TIA.

Hi NN, No you don't need your spouse's name for the birth certificate in the UAE. Both my kids got their birth notifications and birth certificates with just a marriage certificate (attested) and my passport only had my maiden name. To get the baby's passport, then I can't advise.

Hi manu, yes, I do have an Indian passport. Even I heard from a friend recently that husband name is required for baby's passport. I never thought it shud have been a problem as the marriage certificate is attested and all. Am wondering if babysteps can get this done. If it is required, will need to get it done ASAP. its a simple procedure- you dont have to change your name. Its is just to attest the sposes name in both passports. Basically its a stamp on the passport saying your are married to xyz and he has a stamp saying he is married to you. I think you have to sign an undertaking that you are married and submit a copy of your attested marraige certificate

nams new ,if you don't mind telling, which passport do you have? i have also heard recently that Indian passports require husband's name in order for the baby's passport to get processed. and even if you have marriage certificate attested you have to get it with ministry of external affairs i think. i am still searching the reliability of this news and in the interim if you know then do share please, i.e., if you have indian passport.

I dont think so. Many ladies I know dont have their husbands names and got the Birth certificate without problems.

Umm.. not sure if I'll be the best answer, but when we did DD certificate in 2010 my passport had my maiden name, but of course we had to show our attested marriage certificate like everyone. Despite being married, for the past 5 years I have used my maiden name and never had an issue. Only been asked once, I explained its my family name but my children take their fathers. In fact, most of the Emirati women I worked in an office with kept their father's family name so the question arose it was more out of curiousity as why I (i.e a 'westerner') didn't take my husbands name. ETA actually come to think of it I don't think I had even changed my sponsership over to DH at that stage. It seems daunting, but actually we found the process relatively easy=-) Good luck for bubs btw :) <em>edited by chance on 17/09/2011</em>
