Hi
Im pregnant with my 3rd LO.
I had my second child 20 months ago in the american hospital, c section. Im having my 3rd there as well.

The only problem is that when i had the c section they immediatly took the baby away after having a quick glimpse. They say its due to me having to go in the recovery room after a c section and to keep the baby warm and give her, her BCG.

So after 2 hours i had to ASK to get my baby grrrrrr.
Has this happened with anyone else there? they said to me its routine its wat they do ?
As i dont want it happening again with my next c section.

I had my DS at the American Hospital last year through Emergency C-section They put him on my chest immediately for a few minutes for cuddles and photos Then for half an hour when they kept me under supervision they took my DS for a measurements/ clean-up but my DH was with him all the time I told my DH clearly that no way our DS or myself should be out if his sight more than half an hour But all went smooth and didn't have any problems I'm sure you can ask the nurses to take you through all the steps and explain what they are doing and how long approximately it will take I found everyone at the AM fantastic and very helpful Good luck

With my first, at Welcare (emergency section) DS was taken away and I had to beg to see him. After nearly 2 hours I got to hold him. Second time Around I stood my ground (but didn't really have to as I had Dr Elsa and a wonderful doula who knew I wanted my baby asap) and had my little boy delivered straight onto my chest. They did the checks while he was Lyon on me. Stand your ground. Make sure it's in your birth plan and remind the nurses/midwife/dr's who see you throughout the labour. Or better yet, make sure DH reminds them constantly.

I delivered at Welcare with Dr Rosalie Sant and baby was given to me straight away for about 2 min. then they cleaned him right there, next to me and then they took him for a keep test and whatever, husband was with him the whole time. That took about 15 min and then baby was back with me in the recovery room breastfeeding! tell them you want your baby with you at all times! they should respect that unless something isn´t quite right and they need to check him further

With my first one they didn't give me to hold him right away after birth and I saw him for the first time 4 hours later :( with my second one (few days ago), I held her for few minutes right after she was born and then they took her away for cleaning and so on. I've got her back for feeding 1.5-2 hours later and she was with me ever since apart from her cleaning and check ups. You can ask doc who will deliver you to give you the baby

fairycakeyumm - can I ask who your doc was? I'm delivering end of April in American and am still not sure if I have to have a C-sec (low lying placenta issues which hopefully will resolve themselves in time). I will definitely be putting on my birth plan and also discussing with docs/midwives that I still want skin to skin in the event of a c-sec...if there is any medical reason baby needs to be taken away, then Dad will always go with the baby. I will also be requesting that no immunisations be given straight away, I will take care of that later as I don't believe a BCG needs to be done immediately! Besides I know 2 people now who had it done immediately and either it didn't take or wasn't done properly as they had to get them redone later on!

Poor you - i would have been gutted to not have seen my baby for two hours!! I delivered naturally, but was given my baby straight away and nobody disturbed us till we were ready (after initial apgar checks etc which takes 5 mins) I know a section is a bit different, but they certainly dont need to be doing a BCG as soon as the child is born! We had ours before we left, i think on day 2. To echo the others, stand your ground - its your birth and your baby, and you have the right to say what you want to happen (within the realms of safety of course!) Good luck!

I think it depends on your Dr and the hospital?! I delivered via section at City and the same as Shellly, DD was handed straight to me after the first checks! By the time I was being wheeled out of theatre she was nursing already ;) Please speak to your Dr, communicate your wishes and let her know beforehand how you would like the birth to go! Good luck x

I had a c-section at City and once my baby was born, apart from weighing her and doing those first checks etc she was with me every second and was placed on my b00b asap. Stand your ground! Good luck ;)
